The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, April 17, 2015 18 By Cassie Dresch TV Media I f you haven't heard of her, get ready. You'll be hearing a lot more about Amy Schum- er very soon. She's funny, she's witty and she's got a lot of gall. Catch the season 3 premiere of her hilarious sketch comedy show "Inside Amy Schumer" when it airs Tuesday, April 21, on Comedy Central. It's borderline bizarre that Schumer's flown under the ra- dar for so long — you don't just happen to land three 10-episode seasons because network execs are feeling gen- erous. She has a strong back- ground in standup comedy, having started more than 10 years ago, and while her mate- rial often borders on the crass side, it rarely fails to draw some big laughs. Schumer's standup career started in 2004 when she per- formed her first routine at the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City. It was there that she was first introduced to Comedy Central, recording an episode of "Live at Gotham," the com- edy show that's featured the likes of Kristen Schaal ("Bob's Burgers"), Donald Glover ("Community"), Hannibal Bu- ress ("Broad City"), Chelsea Peretti ("Brooklyn Nine-Nine") and many, many more. As she got older and more into comedy, though, Schumer said in the same interview she felt she could be that blunt voice on sexuality many men and women sorely lack in their lives. "I didn't grow up hearing any women really delving into that side of themselves," she said. "So I thought, 'OK, maybe I can be this person for women and for men just to hear the women's perspective in a less apologetic, honest way.'" With the success that "In- side Amy Schumer" is having, I don't think she should start worrying about the conse- quences now. People are tak- ing notice of the beautiful blond phenom, and not just her fans. Schumer's been nomi- nated for a Critics' Choice Tele- vision Award for Best Actress in a Comedy Series as well as a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Vari- ety Series, and it's safe to as- sume that it's only a matter of time before she has to set up a trophy case. Also taking notice of Schum- er's hilarity is funnyman pro- ducer Judd Apatow, known for his big comic hits "Brides- maids" (2011) and "Anchor- man: The Legend of Ron Bur- gundy" (2004). Apatow and Schumer are teaming up for the latter's first leading big- screen role in this year's come- dy "Trainwreck," set to hit the- aters in July. If you haven't heard of Schumer, that's OK. It's almost criminal that she's been flying under the radar, and you're sure to start seeing more of her very soon.
