Wrestling begins a new season with new faces Xarayna Sekscenski Staff Writer The wrestling season is just beginning and expectations are "high" according to Marco Gonzalez (senior). "We are getting back to get- ting fit and getting back into the jist of things, to finish the sea- son well," said Riviera. For team member Gabriel Riviera, senior, the goal this year is to have a "good" and "successful" season. "I am expecting to be the 150's varsity wrestler and also going on to have a good success- ful season. I am also expecting to have tons of fun and enjoy the season since it is my last year," said Riviera. According to Riviera, this year is not his first year partici- pating in wrestling. Riviera has been wrestling since freshman year, and according to him he says he "might as well finish" the rest of the remaining years in high school. "When I tried it [wrestling] my freshman year I liked it. So I wanted to get better to kick some tail," said Gonzalez. This year the wrestling has two girls participating this sea- son, Katy Grissom, freshman, and Dina Menendez, senior. "I wanted to try out because, I have been wrestling for four years before I came to the high school so I thought it would be fun," said Grissom. Grissom has been participat- ing in wrestling and has found differences in the teams. Grissom has wrestled four years in Nawa freestyle and one year in Top Fellers. "I like it [wrestling] because it is a lot different than Nawa, because the kids were smaller and there were different age groupings," said Grissom. The wrestling team will have their first scrimmage against West Valley at Orland. On De- cember third they will be attend- ing the Doc Petersons invite.
