November 18, 2011 Arts and Entertainment 4 'In Time' a futuristic Robin Hood An exciting, provoking, believable film for Timberlake and Seyfried Alaina Rudnick Staff Writer "In Time", directed and written by Andrew Niccol, is a action film set in a futuristic world. In this world everyone is genetically engineered to stop aging at 25, and live one more year before they "time out" and die. In order to live longer, a person must earn or buy more time, which also acts as a currency. You can owe time for rent, or use it to pay for food. The rich live forever and the poor die young, with the 'Time keepers' set up as a police force to keep it that way, and 'minute men' as the mafia of the slums, stealing time and keeping their own type of order. The story was described to me by a friend as a "Futuristic Robin Hood", and it was an accurate analogy. Although it doesn't seem that way at first. It starts in the slums, where people older than 25 live day Will Sallas (Timberlake) and Sylvia Weis (Seyfried) run from Time Keepers by day, starting each day with only around 24 hours to live. It shows the life of Will Sallas, played by Justin Timberlake, and his mother, played by Olivia Wilde. It then follows as the mother dies, tragically timing out just before Sallas can reach her. Hiding from the 'Time Keepers' because of App lets users be their own DJ Carson Dunbar Staff Writer Everybody has experienced that moment at a party or dance when either a song changes too quickly or there is a long pause between songs. These moments can be total mood killers. This is when the need for disc jockeys came about. One problem, you can't just plug a DJ into your iPhone. Or can you? In the famous words of Steve Jobs, "There's an App for that!" There are actually countless apps for DJ's, but many can cost an upwards of ten dollars or more. I have found a free DJ app that meets all the needs of any amateur disc jockey. "The DJ Mixer Pro" free addition allows you to mix tracks straight from your iPod music library. A stylish workable turntable and CDJ mode allow for full scratching on iPod touch and iPhone. "This app is guaranteed to make you the life of the party… as long as you have good music," writes ADL5G. Anyone can use "DJ Mixer" to quickly play a continuous mix with smooth fades between songs or to mix tracks instantly at a party. The app also includes an exclusive feature called Mix With Headphones. Simply use a WiFi network and another iDevice running "DJ mixer." This exclusive feature gives you a complete DJing solution at an affordable price. Other features include; Interactive Mixing, Scratching, Individual three Band EQ per deck, and Sweep- able Resonance Filters. Beat match your tracks without affecting the playback pitch and to quickly skip to different places in your tracks to find the best time to mix using a unique visual display, automatic BPM and song an untrue murder accusation, Sallas flees across districts. To escape the Time Keepers, he takes a hostage, Sylvia Weis, played by Amanda Seyfried. An heiress of one of the biggest empires in the world, she has been restricted and guarded her whole life. They set out on adventures filled with close calls and danger, and she eventually becomes romantically entangled with Sallas. The movie is interesting, the plot is good, and the actors are, of course, very competent. The only thing I really had a problem with was the romance between Weis and Sallas. It happens fast, even in the movie world, playing out in what seems more to be an extreme case of Stockholm's syndrome, a mental disease where, after time, a prisoner begins to agree with and love their captors. The actors are good at portraying emotions. Overall, I thought provoking, good, exciting, and believable. http://fcdn.filmonic.netdna-cdn.com What if you had to pay for things by the amount of time you had to live? 'Go SMS Pro' swift for texting Shelby Keeler Topics Editor structure detection. "This app is simplistic and full of highly usable features. It beat the five dollar app I bought last month," Wrote HerIt345. In conclusion this is a good overall app that is just fun to mess around with. Overall this was a great app to just mess around with and to combine music. If you are into mixing tracks with you friends and having a great time this would be the app you would need to use. It is just so easy and simple to use it's a total no brainer. I wouldn't use the typical cruddy DJ apps. I would only use this one. Sometimes, not all of us are content with the programming that our cell phones are provided with. Certain colors, outlines, designs are too simple for our "smart" phones. Although simplicity can be serenity, some things need a little spicing up for our liking. That's where "GO SMS Pro" steps in. This app creates a swift texting experience where its speed is proven to have raised the bar for other competing apps. It has ample amount of functions and settings that are unsurpassed by other competitors. Once you have first This app will make you the life of the party! Bluffer Staff Pick 'I Am Legend' (2007) Connor Ross A&E Editor "I am Legend" is not just one of your typical movies. It will make you cry, scare you, and have you guessing throughout the entire film. This movie takes place in a present day New York. When scientist Robert Neville (Will Smith) is trying to find a cure for cancer. For many weeks everything seems to be going great but it is soon discovered that it transformed the patients into murderous monsters who can't touch the light, and only certain people are immune to this virus. One of these people happen to be scientist Rob- ert Neville. These "Zombies" would then hunt down the im- mune people at night, killing them. Neville is one of the last sur- vivors in New York and him and his dog Sam go around town during the day just trying to stay alive and live life like it used to be. Of course there are always those problems in the movie that make you jump and question why that character did what he did. Such as the dog downloaded the app you will be directed to three pages of minimal instructions. On page one, you have the option to choose between "bubble" and "list" style for your personal message appearance. Page two then gives you three choices for which mode you would like to use. The final page is nothing but options that will allow you to disable any other SMS related apps, and then the Setting Wizard is completed and you are free to explore a fresh texting experience. In a triangular prism you will have three main options: "Messages", "Folders", and "Plugins". You will see this shape by "swiping" across your phone. All original messages before downloading the app will be there, however, once you click on that particular thread of messages, the theme, font, and "bubbles" will have changed. Although your previous messages are there, the app has trouble recognizing contacts that are saved to your phone and not your SIM card. It also will not have any Facebook contacts available for you to text. This is only a slight inconvenience but could be fixed for future updates. A plus that will guarantee your liking is the having the ability to change the theme that you prefer. Whether if they are similar lay outs like "iPhones", or if they are just color differential. The "Folder" and "Plugins" portion are extremely useless and you will most likely not use them; although, if you are apart of the few that might do so, they seem perfectly capable to complete your needs, texting- wise. If you were wondering, no, the app does not change your key board. Even though the creator of this app has several apps that will do so, they are not incorporated into "GO SMS Pro". One of the best features of this app is the small display window that pops up after you receive a text message so you can reply promptly. After having this app sometime, your phone might experience technical difficulties by frequent glitches and freezing while you write replies. The bugs are yet to be worked through after several updates. Although this app has more pros than cons, in some cases the cons can weigh you down, yet if you can see through the glitches this app proves to be a convenient one. This app can make life a lot easier in the texting world, but it also glitches up every once in a while, but that is just a little incovenience. Robert Neville (Will Smith) and his dog, Sam, scouting New York Sam going into this dark build- ing trying to chase down a deer and the building is infested with "Zombies" and Neville must try to get him out before Sam gets himself killed. Also the "Zom- bies" start getting smarter and set traps for Neville and they catch him, so he must escape the trap before nightfall comes or else he will be killed. Throughout the whole movie Neville is still trying to find a cure for the mess he created but fails constantly. This movie is filled with mystery and you never know what is going to happen. Will Smith does a great job in this movie since he is basically the only character throughout the entire film. I strongly recom- mend this movie if you just want to see an excellent film. A great film with a good, unique plot along with great acting.
