FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Kosa The Kosa retirees fished Lake Norman last week and man did they send message to many time winners John Black and Roger McNeilly. "We are tired of playing second fiddle". Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christainberry took the win with 10.20, they anchored that with big fish of the day, a 3.50 largemouth. Tom Mayhew and John Rankin were second with 6.95 followed by Tommy Wess and James Haynes with 6.55. This marked the first time in many weeks, the team of Black and McNeilly were not in the top three and all at the landing let them know about it. Remarks such as, "You know you can weigh in a limit, don't you?" and "where you gonna get that truck payment this week?", were all followed by laughter. This week it is back to Lake Wylie and I predict a little pay- back from Black and McNeilly. Bass Casters The Bass Casters club fished Lake Wylie Sunday and Mark Swink picked up the win. He had 9.2 and a 2.15 big bass of the day. Terry Knight had 7.3 and took second, with Tom Gavin in third and had 5.12. Brandon Scarborough had 3.10 and was fourth, Mitch McCracken landed in fifth with 2.2. December the 4th will be the next tournament and it will be on Lake Wateree. I knew I would be gone for the better part of three weeks and did not want to be "hunted out" before this time came. I knew several days of hunting in the cold and in unknown weather conditions would become tiring if I was not prepared both physically and mentally. As I write, I am getting ready for the last leg of this three week experiment. I was right concerning most of my concerns, but have handled them, as planned, just as well. There have been several days I have sat in a tree stand for eleven hours. And while this is not normal during most of the hunting season, during the rut, it is essential if one wants the most opportunities for seeing a big buck. But just because it's the rut, doesn't mean that deer are running around every minute of the day. There are times of lulls – for hours and even whole days. These lulls can be boring and will test one's endurance. But when there is activity, the time fl ies. I hear many people talk about their experiences in church services like a day in the tree stand without seeing any activity. It's boring and enduring to the end is diffi cult. Most criticize these complainers for some lack in his or her life. And while this may be true, it still does not miraculously make boring in- activity suddenly become relevant and exciting. And it's really time we stopped making excuses for the church. If Christ's church is boring and full of inactiv- ity then we need to simply embrace this truth and live with it. If it is not, then we need to look at what we are doing to turn her into something that she is not meant to be. If a comedian is not funny, kind lis- teners leave after only a few jokes. (Rougher ones may through tomatoes) Both are not coming back. Hunters He ping The Hungry MOTORCYCLES/ATVs program to give deer meat to the U-CAN Bliss Center for distribution to those in need of food. FFA members show a strong interest in this project and are requesting the help of the community to accomplish their vision. Both hunters and those who wish to help sponsor the endeavor are needed. FFA members and local outdoors- men are encouraged to legally har- vest deer and take the fi eld-dressed animal to Wells-Jenkins-Wells Pro- cessing in Forest City, NC. After the processor has packaged the meat, students will deliver to the U-CAN Bliss Center in Lawndale. Every ounce of meat that is donated will go to our friends who are in need of this food. One deer can feed a family for three months or up to two hundred people at one time. The hunters that donate deer will receive a free t-shirt with local sponsors/business names on the back. The following are the different levels of sponsorship: • Feed the Family - $50 • Feed the Street - $100 • Feed the Community - $200 • Feed the County - $500 GOOD DUCK CALLING Good duck calling techniques are essential to success. There is no substitute for practice so do it whenever and wherever you can. Go out and listen to live birds or taped sounds of birds. Don't wait to work on it in the blind. When you've mastered it, learn to call a lot when they're working a rig, but once they've committed, lay off and don't do anything except maybe a little feed chuckle if it looks like they are coming in. If they drift or pass, hit them hard with the calls again. On sunny, warm, still mornings, your calling should be easy and maybe even a little lazy. If it's a windy, blustery day, then you have to work hard, be aggressive, and call constantly in a very excited fashion. Jerry Martin is co-host of "100% Real Hunting" on Versus® For more tips, log onto basspro.com Each level of sponsorship gets their business advertised on the back of the shirt. Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ If a singer is bad, out of respect, we may listen to one or two songs but we will also be gazing at our watch. And again, don't expect us to come for a concert. But it seem when a preacher is boring and irrelevant, we give him a pass. I know this is not going to sit well with some, but isn't the reputation of God's church worth defending? Please remember this – men will listen to a speaker for a long time if the speaker is….. (1) Gifted in speaking to some degree. I'm not talking about some fl ashy guy with one liners and old clichés; but some giftedness. If a singer needs to be gifted in singing, they why wouldn't a speaker need to be somewhat gifted as well? (2) Prepared. If you are a preacher, then spend most of your time during the week in solid and deep preparation. Don't let other lesser duties take you away from your main call. (And please don't give me the difference between a pastor and a preacher. If you're a pastor, then your are meant to be primarily a preacher) And…. (3) Be relevant. Your listener needs to be able to answer these questions. What do you want me to know? Why do you want me to know it? (How does apply to my daily living?) And how can I do what you are asking me to do? The real church is not meant to be like sitting in a tree stand all day without seeing any activity. It's not meant to be boring. That doesn't mean that ev- ery service will have equal appeal to all, but please make it your effort to portray the Church of the Living God, as she really is. www outdoortruths.or www..outdoortruths.org TURKEY SHOOT 952 Bethlehem Church Rd.
