As Thanksgiving marks the beginning of the holiday season this winter, it's important to re- member safety precautions for you and your family while the Competition cheerleading and classes: $80 a month cheerleading, dance, stunting, and tumbling classes (3 times a week) house is full and a lot is going on. Use these tips from USA.gov to keep your Thanksgiving safe and fun: Cooking for a group can be much more challenging than a normal meal. When family comes together for Thanks- giving, it can be hard to keep track of who is in charge of the kitchen and to make sure all the food is cooked prop- erly. Make sure you know how to prevent bacteria from getting into the food and causing food borne illness. The U.S. Department of Agriculture offers advice on storing and preparing food for groups whether you're cooking in advance or making food the day of the event. Everyone may have his or her personal favorite Thanks- giving dish, but for most, nothing is as important as the turkey itself. Making sure you have the perfectly tasting and displayed turkey can also be stressful. Not sure what size to get? A good rule of thumb is to allow one pound per person. Whether you're using a fresh or frozen turkey, there are important guidelines to follow in the days lead- ing up to Thanksgiving and while preparing the turkey. While cooking, remember the rest of your family around you. Make sure young children are out of the way of the oven and other hot cooking appliances. If you are cooking outdoors, monitor your food closely to prevent a fi re. You can review more Thanksgiving Day cooking tips ahead of time so you don't need to worry later on. While dinner's cooking and you're spending time with the family, you can fi ll the kids in on where Thanksgiv- ing came from and why America honors this important holiday. President George Washington fi rst recognized Thanksgiving, but it didn't become a commemorative holiday each year until President Abraham Lincoln issued an offi cial proclamation. Whether you're hosting Thanksgiving or just contribut- ing to the meal, remembering these food safety tips can help keep your holiday happy. Stagecoach Trail Lawndale, NC 704-689-8892 Thursday, November 17-November 23, 2011 Somewhere around the year 33, many in the nation of Israel believed that their long awaited Messiah had fi nally arrived. They heralded his coming into the city of Jerusalem by wav- ing palm branches and chanting "Hosanna" which means save. And saving is exactly what they were looking for in their Mes- siah. A False Messiah with Richard Prow rpcrosswords@gmail.com The long weary and discouraged masses were anxious for their new coming king to sack the oppressive Roman govern- ment and drive it's armies from their beloved nation once and for all. They were expecting this Jesus to heal their land, heal their bodies, and heal their pocket books with the wave of His hand and the roll of His tongue. Given his track record for miracles it shouldn't have been too much to ask. To the crowds dismay however their "supposed Savior" took upon Himself a crown of thorns rather than one encrust- ed with jewels. Instead of being seated upon a throne, He allowed Himself to be spiked to a tree. Worthless He was deemed to be and an impostor of the highest order. Within a 24 hour period He went from being praised to being persecut- ed. When the cross came into view the crowds faded away. Simply put, He wasn't the Messiah they had been expecting. 2011 and not much has changed. The world, as well as many Christians, continues to seek a "savior" who will pave a primrose path. Fit bodies, fat bank accounts, and fantastic vacations are expected and at times even demanded from the "god" of miracles. 'Peace and Prosperity' is this spiritual generations bumper sticker slogan. But take note. Christ didn't come to save us from bank- ruptcy. He came to save us from our sins. His goal was not for us to be insulated from the pains of life but rather to escape spiritual death. If we are not understanding of that we too will disappear at the fi rst sign of Calvary.. "When trouble or per- secution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away" (Matt. 13:21). "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fi ll you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way" - Colossians 1:9-10, NIV WE CAN HELP!
