The Daily Star, Oneonta, N.Y., Friday, November 4, 2011 10 of candidates who have had plenty of television experi- ence already. It's a formula that has A/ Olsego Manor B/Warm Solutions 2 x 2.5 worked well for Food before, as seen with their ratings suc- cess with "Chopped All- Stars" earlier this year. Fans of the celebrity contestants tune in to see how their favorite(s) fare throughout the competi- tion – not to mention there's the added curiosity of seeing how they manage outside of their usual element and under intense pressure. When it was first an- nounced, the initial roster of ten contestants really did read like an impressive who's- who of Food Network, Cook- ing Channel and "Top Chef" personalities. Among them: Anne Burrell ("Secrets of a Restaurant Chef"), who is a fierce competitor with plenty of experience in Kitchen Sta- dium as Mario Batali's sous chef during his Iron Chef days. To pit Burrell against her "Worst Cooks in America" opponent, Robert Irvine, was a great casting choice too -- especially since Burrell hand- ed Irvine another crushing loss when they faced off once again in the "Chopped" tour- nament. Contestants from "The Next Iron Chef" with host Alton Brown (far right) Help Wanted All-star battle rages over 'Next Iron Chef' TV Media T he "Help Wanted" sign is up in Kitchen Stadium and the search is on for the next great Iron Chef. The departure of Cat Cora (who is headed to OWN) left a vacancy in the "Iron Chef America" lineup alongside Bobby Flay, Masaharu Mo- rimoto, Michael Symon, Jose Garces and Marc Forgione. And as with past seasons, the Food Network is opting to put would-be candidates to the test in front of a national au- dience on Sunday nights. The search began last week with the fourth season pre- miere of "The Next Iron Chef." But in a departure from previous years, judges Symon, Judy Joo ("Iron Chef UK") and Simon Majumdar are dealing with an all-star roster Speaking of "Chopped," the initial group also featured three of that show's judges: Alex Guarnaschelli ("Alex's Day Off"), Geoffrey Zakarian ("24 Hour Restaurant Bat- tle") and Marcus Samuelsson (who won Season 2 of "Top Chef Masters"). Burrell's not the only Kitch- en Stadium veteran. The Cooking Channel's Chuck Hughes ("Chuck's Day Off") managed to defeat Iron Chef Bobby Flay during his appear- ance earlier this year, an im- pressive feat that was also ac- complished in 2006 by his "Next Iron Chef" rival Beau MacMillan ("Worst Cooks in America"). Bravo's "Top Chef" fran- chise was also well represent- ed in the initial line-up with Elizabeth Falkner, Michael Chiarello ("Easy Entertaining With Michael Chiarello") and Food2.com's Spike Mendel- sohn ("Kelsey & Spike Cook").
