Winter Formal Search for talent Blood Drive Assets January 21, 2015 Cash for College night was held at 6:30 in the media room inside the Library. Cash for College night was a series of informational workshops. These workshops allowed Red Bluff High School Seniors and their parents to fill out applications to get financial aid and different grants. Mrs. Gambetta's thought prior to the event on student participation was, "Everyone should for sure come, people tend to procrastinate about filling out their applications and this night will give them an extra push to get started." 'Supper Program' arrives at RBHS afterschool 'The Interview' movie review, page 4 'V Boys Soccer' sports story, page 6 The Red Bluff Union High School has welcomed an after school program known as the Supper Program. The program was not funded by a grant, rather it is an add on to the pre-existing free and reduced lunch program. The Supper Program has been around for years, however it is new to RBHS as of this year. It was introduced by the food service manager, Chris Trimble. Every school can apply for the program, and RBHS chose to implement it this year. The after school program, offered between 3:15 and 3:45 has different meals daily. Students can check on the website in order to see what meal will be offered that day. The website is cafesparta.org. The entree will include the same things that are offered consistently and daily. This includes fruits, vegetables, etc. "We roughly do about 400 supper meals for our own school campus and 400 meals for other schools. The schools include: Antelope, Berrendos, Gerber and Lassen View. This 'College night' informs seniors of available options Parks and Recreation Dept. approves dog park in order to provide students proper nutrition Becca Blanchard Editor-In-Chief For attending this informational night about college finances you could have gotten free on-the-spot assistance in completing the FAFSA or the CA Dream Application. "Filling out these applications can benefit you [and it] only takes about 30 to 40 minutes," shared Mrs. Gambetta. Spring Success Event was held Wednesday, totals to 800 supper meals per day," said Trimble. Trimble also mentioned that students do not have to qualify for free and reduced lunch in order to qualify and receive that after school meal. This allows for students to receive the full three meals a day rather than go hungry. Students have responded positively to the integration. "I have been to that after school snack program (I'm usually starving by the end of the day like any other typical teen) and I like it. I feel like its a great program. Any student who's hungry after school can get a snack at cost of their identity and ID number, why not? Its a good program and a step in the right direction for Red Bluff High," said Junior Jay Woods. Other students also agree that the program is beneficial. "I have gone to the after school snack program. I think its a great program because some students such as myself have to stay at the school for late hours. Maybe one day you skip lunch and have to stay after school till 5, you have the option to go get a free snack that the school provides which I find very convenient at times," said Ericka Navarrete, junior. January 22 at 6:30. This night is composed of multiple workshops consisting of information about; student success, career information, transcripts, cost of college and much more. Mrs. Gambetta's shared, "Spring Success Event is a huge benefit that helps parents understand the steps that lead to college. This night is even more beneficial to the parents who do not have a lot of experience with college." This event was offered to all students at Red Bluff High School and their parents. During the evening you may attend up to three different workshops for 15 minutes each. Both of these college nights held here at our campus were successes. A dog park discussed by the Red Bluff Parks and Recreation Commission for many years is finally coming together. The only thing holding them back is collecting a $18,000 fund needed for items such as; perimeter fencing, decomposed granite soil, concrete picnic tables and benches, signs, trees and shrubs and miscellaneous costs. To raise this fund they plan to have a six-month fund raiser. An initial video contest will award two hundred dollars to first place. Three finalists will also recieve prizes. The contest will be open to Red Bluff High School students, Mercy High School students, as well as Corning and Los Molinos students. The video will be due Thursday, February 12. The video must be two minutes long, entertaining, and contain facts and information on the dogs in our area. For more information on the contest those interested can see Patricia Phillips in room 313 of RBHS. The video must be sent on a DVD to Mrs. Phillips or Chris Hurton at the Community Center. The Commission also discussed that they would be selling engraved bricks at the park. The bricks would possibly be hand-made. Ryan Gamboa, student representative, said that the Red Bluff dog park has a Facebook page established titled "Red Bluff Dog Park". It will be located at Trainer Park also known as Frey and Tosh Fields which is behind Vista Preparatory Academy. It will be separated by a fence. Phillips explained that the dog park is not only for the dogs, but for the owners as well, like a social event. To the right is the current blueprint for the planned dog park given by the parks and recreation department. "Spring Success Event is a huge benefit that helps parents understand the steps that lead to college...." ~Mrs. Gambetta Tymberlyn Bealer Sports Editor Nichole Valdez Staff Writer A Red Bluff High School student is participating in the new "Supper Program" and recieving afterschool food free.
