Over the course of the next four weeks, five teams of cake decorators, sugar specialists and pump- kin carvers work together to create impressively horrific Halloween displays. They'll try to outdo each other in hopes of impressing the judges, who will eliminate one group of challengers per week until the last remain- ing team wins the $50,000 grand prize. For others, how- ever, the end of the month can't come soon enough. October 31st is a big deal for those of us who use Hal- loween as an opportunity to put their creativity on dis- play. From costumes to treats and decorations, many throw themselves completely into the spirit of things. Beginning this week, the Food Network will too. While the theme alone may be enough to bring in viewers, Food has also lined up a rotating panel of celeb- rity guest judges who know their stuff when it comes to horror. "Goosebumps" author R. L. Stine, for one, has been penning kid-friendly horror stories since the 1980s. There's also actresses Jaime King and Scout Taylor-Comp- ton, who have starred in a few thrillers. But the biggest name among them? Gram- my-nominated artist Rob Zombie. You wouldn't think of the heavy-metal rocker as a food show judge but given his directorial and screen- writing credits on such films as the 2007 remake of "Hal- loween" and its 2009 se- quel, he seems like as good a judge as anybody when it comes to all things scary.
