Lexi Pritchard A&E Editor Hailie Willey Staff Writter Juanita VanMeter Staff Writer Jay Boone Staff Writer After losing three games this season, the Red Bluff High School Varsity football team feels confident that they will win tonight's game against Shasta High School. The game will take place at Shasta and start at 7:30. "It is going to be challenging because we have lost these last few games, but I think we have a chance to win," junior Ryan Gamboa said. Owen Swarthout is another junior football player on the Red Bluff High School Varsity football team stated, "It will be challenging because a lot of people doubt us." The team has only won one game this season, and yet they are still very confident in themselves. "We know we are capable, but it all comes down to if we can follow through," Swarthout said. The Varsity players have been practicing very hard and have been gaining more confidence. The varsity girls' golf team has begun this year's golf season with high hopes and expectations not only as individuals, but as a team. In the words of senior Summer Frantz, "I think we are going to do well this." She went on to say, regarding how well they did in their last match, stating, "We did really well in our last match." We tied for first, but we had to play without our number four player." The team is missing their number four player which may or may not have impacted the outcome of the last match. However, they did not appear to have much effect on how well the team matched up against their opponents. Although the team will be glad to have her back and contributing to the team. Summer Frantz also spoke regarding who the team's strongest opponent is, stating, "Chico, because we came in second after them last year on the very last match." The team has been working hard and strives to get better each day. Red Bluff High School's girls golf team's typical practice multiple times throughout the week. During their practices, the team will hit at the range, chip and putt on the green. Then after they warm up, they play a few holes if they have enough time. The team has played in three practice matches, but only one real match so far this season. The match that was set to take place Thursday of last week, October 25, was cancelled due to restricting weather conditions. Their next match will take place at Wilcox Oaks, Thursday October 9 th . So far the team's expectations are being met. They have started off this year's season with a great outcome and hopefully the team continues to succeed. So if you find yourself bored and looking for some entertainment, go check out and support our Red Bluff High Schools Varsity girls' golf team! The girls golf team's next game is October 9, at Wilcox Oaks starting at 1 PM. So far this season the Red Bluff Girls Tennis team has, at the time of this issue, had an overall record of 6-4 and a league record of 3-4. As they continue through league their main goal is to hopefully bring home as many wins as they can. Due to the fact that they have played most of their league opponents they have discovered just what it is that they need to work on, as well as who their toughest opponents are. Some of the things they feel as if they need to work on in order to improve overall and for their next match which is Tuesday against Pleasant Valley high school at Pleasant Valley High School. The time of the game is 3:30. Although PV has a win over the girls tennis team they feel as if they to improve on little things in their doubles play they can bring home another win this season. " I think we will be more motivated to beat them than the last time and we also want to get revenge for their last win against us," Maggie Winning, freshman. In doubles play, they feel as if they should improve on their volleying, poaching, as well as playing more aggressive from the net. "Due to the fact that they have Red Bluff High School's swim team prepares for their upcoming meet against NorCal JV at Anderson Girls tennis team continues to be strong throughout their season Varsity football team remains motivated Girls' golf competes for a win "Practices are challenging, but they're fun," Carly Storms stated about swim practices. She continued, "They're every day of the week and it affects my homework but I really Storms answered questions about practices and meets on Thursday, September 26. They both had conflicting and similar opinions about the sport. enjoy being in the water." Jordon Johnson had a very different opinion about how swim team affects school, stating, "Swim helps me memorize things, so being in this sport actually helps me with school. It's a little challenging (having practice every day) but at least I can practice to be good at the games." Storms talked about the presence of team effort while in meets, "Practices are team driven, but meets are more individual." She continued, "We cheer for each other but we are mostly worried about our own time." " I actually enjoy them (meets) a lot," Jordan stated when asked how she felt about meets and their difficulty. "(How well I feel about the meet) Depends on the school, sometimes I feel good, like when everyone else is last, but with some schools I feel bad, and that I have to practice more." Sunday, October Fourth is the next game. Red Bluff High School will be competing in Anderson against NorCal JV Invite. a strong ladder, we really need to work on doubles, because if we have a chance at winning it will definitely with our doubles players," Rylee DuFrain, Sophomore. The team also has high hopes to make it to playoffs, because it is a four team play-off, and so far the team still has a chance to be in it. "I like our chances in the playoffs, as long as we continue to work to improve everyday and support each other," said tennis coach Poulton. "We've been practicing hard and adding a few new plays," senior Joey Skaggs said. Another Red Bluff High School payer commented about gaining confidence by adding, "We are trying to get our mind set so that we can play Daniel Koenig. "They are a good group of coaches. I feel like if we listen to them, we could go somewhere with it," senior Rockland Weeks. This statement was added on to Daniel Koenig quote on how their coach is motivating. Although, the team does feels like they could improve mentally and physically. "We need to play as a team more," said senior Justin Nunez. Owen Swarthout add on to Nunez on topic what the team should work on or improve on in their games and practices, "We should play to our full potential." The teammates are very good friends with each other and have been gaining each other's trust. "We act like a family," said junior Carlos Rivera. "My teammates and I are like a second family. If we really try, we could do well together," Weeks said. The next game is October 10 th . It takes place at Chico High School and starts at 8:00. Red Bluff High School's swim team is practing for their next meet held on October 4, 2014 at Anderson High School aginst NorCal JV. Red Bluff High School Swim Team athletes Jordan Johnson and Carly Red Bluff High School's tennis team practices for their upcoming match next Tuesday.
