This one was released in 1958, the year Guz Aguila died. Q: Is “Twentysixmiles” with John Schneider ever going to be shown on television? Maybe as a miniseries? A: It doesn’t look that way, though you can still watch it. “Twentysixmiles” is an in- dependently produced TV series, a rare thing in the business. But rarer still is the fact that its production com- pany, Tower 17, made an en- tire season of the series be- fore it ever had a deal to air it. Industry watchers lauded the bold move, but sadly the gamble didn’t pay off, or at least not how the producers expected it to. Having wrapped in 2008, they shopped it around for a while without getting any bites. Then, in 2010, they de- cided to go indie all the way and distribute it via the on- line video-sharing site Hulu. com. They posted episodes of the show each week, “premiering” it on June 2. The shows quickly found a following and spent the summer on Hulu’s most- watched lists. But despite that success, producer Rob Miller has said that there won’t be any more episodes. Until they get a TV deal, that is. Critics expressed their surprise that the show was able to draw the big names it did without having a deal in place or a network behind it. John Schneider may not be a huge star, but he’s a name most people recog- nize, and he still has quite a bit of TV prestige. Having come of age as one of the stars of the iconic and huge- ly successful “Dukes of Haz- zard” series, he went on to a long career of telefilms and TV guest spots before his re- cent career revival as Clark’s dad Jonathan Kent on CW’s “Smallville.” It also drew a few notable guest stars, including come- dic star Jeffrey Tambor (“Ar- rested Development”) and Billy Dee Williams (of the “Star Wars” films and many others).
