Following the pledge of al- legiance and the recogni- tion of veterans, the crowd, led by Larry Russell, stood and sang the Lee Green- wood song, "Proud to Be an American." This has be- come a tradition at the OHS alumni banquets, and the song never fails to stir the hearts of those attending. All former cheerlead- ers led the singing of the school song and gave a rousing cheer for old OHS. Carolyn Hand Myers ac- companied them on the pi- ano. Carl David Breidenbaugh gave the blessing before the meal, which was served by Carla's Catering of Shoals. President Ruthie Barrett conducted the business meeting. Alan Houtsch read the minutes and gave the treasurer's report. The OHS scholarship, which is endowed through the Pike County Communi- ty Foundation, was awarded this year to Kelci Osgath- arp, the daughter of Ken- neth and Mary Ellen Os- gatharp. Kelci talked about her plans to attend the Uni- versity of Southern Indiana and major in sports medi- cine. Bill then reported on the value of the scholarship and read a list of contribu- tors for the past year. Andy Anderson, former OHS teacher, coach, and principal, gave the mili- tary roll call for the class of 1964, who were celebrating their 50th year. Richard Helton, 1964 graduate and former teach- er and coach of OHS, placed a flower in a vase for each deceased classmate. Dar- rell Russell sang the Bea- tles hit "I Want to Hold Your Hand" for the 17 alumni of the Class of 1964. That song was released during their senior year of high school. Vice-president Debby Ficklin conducted a memo- rial service for the 26 stu- dents and one teacher who succumbed during the past year. Nine teachers were present. Other entertainment in- cluded Larry Russell sing- ing the Moe Bandy song "Americana." Linda Royal- ty and Kevin Myers sang "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly," a song made popular by Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty. The event concluded with Harold Cummings presenting door prizes to Don Jones for coming the farthest (Nevada), to Shir- ley Powell for being the old- est to serve as support staff, and to Rip Sorgius for being the oldest veteran present.
