Christ Abides with Us When the first missionar- ies went to St. Thomas, they could not get near the suf- fering and degraded slaves until they took part in their bondage and asked the mas- ters to make them slaves al- so. Then they were received with perfect confidence and were able to bring multi- tudes of the poor suffering ones to Christ. They trust- ed them when they saw that they had become identified with their very own lives and lot. "Praise be to the Lord the God of Israel, because He has come and has redeemed His people (Luke 1:68)." But He comes closer. These missionaries could work by the side of the slave, but they could not come into their hearts. Bob Shepherd, Reporter PLEASAnT gROVE g.B. Background scrip- ture—Haggai: 2:10 -19. Last week's Trivia ques- tion: What blessing did the Lord promise to Zerubbabel for his obedience? Answer: To treat him as a signet ring upon his finger. Next week's Trivia ques- tion: What three types of trees are mentioned in Hag- gai? Mini message: Defiled Back in the Old Testa- ment times there were ma- ny purification rituals per- formed to cleanse the heart. Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice for our sins so the daily rituals are no longer a requirement for purification of our hearts. The point of this mes- sage is holiness will not rub off on others but contamina- tion will. If we continue to harbor unclean thoughts, words and actions we will be defiled. Keep your heart cleansed daily by confessing your sins to Jesus. Repent daily and maintain the pure heart that he gives you. Until next week—May God bless. Josh Bowers, Pastor Lisa Wilson, Reporter SPURgEOn UnITED METHODIST CHURCH Sunday morning wor- ship 9 a.m.; Sunday school 10 a.m. Pray for those on our prayer list. Read Ephesians 2:1-10. "It is by grace you have been saved, through faith— and this is not from your- selves, it the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8). Everyone is welcome to come and worship. Honna Schloss, Pastor Sherry Julian, Reporter Our battle is not against flesh and blood. We have an enemy and his name is "the false accuser." The word "devil" means slanderer or false accuser. That is his very name and his very na- ture. Jesus said this about him in John 8:44, "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murder- er from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own re- sources, for he is a liar and the father of it." The devil brings false ac- cusation and lies about the people of God. How do we counteract this? We put on the armor of God talked about in Ephesians 6. This is done with our tongue. We have to speak the Word if it is going to work. There is a reason that the sword comes out of the mouth of Jesus to devour His enemies in the last battle. This is where the sword of the Spirit is to be utilized. Revelation 12:11 says, "And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death." Let's use the Word that's been given to us and take out the lies of the devil, rather than letting those lies come through our mouths into the earth. Blessings.
