"It was a lot of pressure, and it was something really neat for him to experience. Usually, you have four or five people following you, and he had probably 150 people watching him. I could tell he really liked that." Despite bogeying the first four holes, Hill made par on 10 of the re- maining 14, bogeyed three and dou- ble-bogeyed one to shoot his person- al-best 18 -hole round. "He started out a little rocky, and I think maybe it was nerves," Gide- on said. "But once he got settled in, he played the last 13 or so holes probably the best I've seen him play. He was hitting the ball well enough to be even par." However, Gideon noted, Hill did not putt very well. "He didn't make any putts," Gide- on said. "If he could have putted well, he very easily could have been 74, 75, easily." "We don't play a lot of 18 -hole matches, but this was the first time he's really played up to his poten- tial," Gideon added. "He hits the ball as well as anybody around. Once he starts to make some putts, he's going to be hard to beat, I really think." Pike Central finished eighth out of 13 teams, with a score of 372, its best 18 -hole showing of the season. Sophomore Tyler Toopes shot a career-best round of 95, while se- nior Laron Griffith also set a new personal mark with a 98. Juniors Austin Dixon and Caleb Freeland rounded out the team with scores of 100 and 102, respectively. Vincennes Rivet won the section- al with a score of 298, nine strokes ahead of Vincennes Lincoln and Washington, which both had scores of 307. Hill will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery. "Kaleb works really hard," Gide- on noted. "He's out there more than anyone else. He putts, chips, he works all the time on his game. It's nice to see him put it together and get that recognition here at the end of the year. He deserves it."
