Brookfield Central was a distant second with 120.5 points. Hamilton took third with 97.5 points, while Menomonee Falls took sixth with 45 points. Alisha Harper was a main reason why East broke the record. She won all three individual events that she entered. She won the long jump (16 feet, 9 inches) and triple jump (37-4.5). Harper was also part of East's domination in the hurdles. Harper won the 55-meter high hurdles in 9.29 seconds, followed by teammate Kelsey Lins- meier (9.42). Linsmeier also took second in the 55 low hurdles. East's Allie Bullen won the low hur- dles in 8.94. Other winners for East were Khadiya Hollings- worth in the high jump (5- 7) and the 4x240 relay team (2:27.12). Brookfield Central went 1-2 in the 800. Elizabeth Flatley won in 2:24.12, while Rachel Ilgen took second (2:31.79). Flatley also won the 1,600 in 5:07.63. Hamilton won two events. Bianca Stubler won the 400 in 1:03.24, while the 4x400 relay team also crossed first in 4:24.20. Menomonee Falls' lone event winner was Samanth Madrzak in the pole vault (10-6). Brookfield Academy baseball team rolls past SJNMA DELAFIELD – Jack Leszczynski went 5 for 5 with two doubles, four runs and two RBIs as the Brookfield Academy baseball team beat St. John's Northwester n 26-5 in a Midwest Classic Conference game last month. Nate Stolte went 3 for 4 with four runs and two RBIs for the Blue Knights, who improved to 9-0 over- all. Matthew Armer went 2 for 3 with two runs for SJNMA. – Freeman Staff By Evan Frank Freeman Correspondent BROOKFIELD – Lisa Foss liked the fight in her team. The Brookfield East High School girls track and field coach saw her team in fourth place for most of the Lady Spartan Invitational last month. But the Spartans fought back for a second-place fin- ish. "We didn't really stack (the lineup) today," Foss said. "We just want to make sure girls stay healthy. Given those circumstances, still finishing second place with really amazing compe- tition, with Franklin, Muskego and Arrowhead, those are top teams in the state." East senior Alisha Harper won the 200 in 26.98 and also won the triple jump with a leap of 36-10 1/2. Arrowhead tur ned in a convincing all-around per- for mance, winning the meet with 162 points, while East scored 133. "We have just a great group of senior girls," interim head coach Curt Kaczor said. "With that senior leadership, I think now they under- stand the sport and they want to finish on a high note, finish on top. They're a little bit more motivated. There's not a next year for them." One of those seniors, Ceanna Soper, swept both hurdle races, winning the 100-meter highs in 15.95 sec- onds and the 300 intermedi- ates in 46.78. Soper was pleased with her perfor mance in the year's first outdoor meet, but has a simple plan to improve as the season grinds on. "Running faster," Soper said with a laugh. "I had a stutter it my hurdles (dur- ing the 300). It was really poor, so I just picked that up faster between the hur- dles and that's all we can do." Soper, who admits she wasn't "one of those kids who were good from the beginning," has steadily improved through high school. "Ceanna is a very motivated person," Kaczor said. "She has high goals for herself, she has high goals for our team and her teammates. She's kind of stepped up as one of our leaders right now. "She's done everything she could possibly do in the offseason to have a great final season." Arrowhead seniors Jack- ie Dubnicka (5:14.2) and Lea Patek (5:18.51) finished 1-2 in the 1600. In the field, Arrowhead got victories from senior Taylor Amann in the pole vault (10 feet, 6 inch- es), sophomore Mary Bar- telson in the long jump (15- 7 1/2) and junior Brianne Harris in the discus (102-2 1/2). Waukesha North senior Elizabeth Kelliher put the competition on notice with a winning throw of 35-5 1/2 in the shot put. Kelliher, a basketball standout headed to Michi- gan Tech, decided to try the sport in her final year of high school. "I just started throwing for the first time this year at the beginning of this sea- son," Kelliher said. "It's been really fun and I'm just really excited I've been doing well. It's just really exciting to do well at meets." In an event that relies so heavily on technique, Kelliher looks to improve on her impressive outdoor debut. "Technique is something I'm still obviously am trying to work on," Kelliher said. "It seems like so far I've been getting better since I started."
