By Gary Miller By The Kosa retirees fished Lake Norman last week with Larry Melton and George Crosswhite picking up the win with 9.30. They anchored their catch with a 2.9 largemouth. Second place went to John Black and Roger McNeilly with 8.60. David O’Shields and Doug Sparrow had 8.30 and landed in third. This week, the retirees will fish Lake Wylie from 8am til 2 pm. Bass Casters Winn takes back to back wins. Bobby Winn won the Bass Casters December make up event on Lake Wateree two weeks back. Winn had 6.0 to take the tough win. Mitch McCracken had 5.11 and was second. Rick McKinney had 2.10 and was third, with Randy Scarborough a close fourth with 2.7. Terry Knight had 1.13 and was fifth. This past weekend, the Bass Casters fished Stumpy Pond and once again Winn took first place. This week however, the catches were much better. Winn had 15.8 followed by Randy Scarborough with 14.8 and Mitch McCracken a close third with 14.4. Bruce Camp had 12.15 and was fourth, with Terry Knight bringing in 9.6 to claim fifth. The Bass Casters will fish Lake Hickory for their April event on the 24th from 7am til 3pm. Moss Twenty-three boats made the weekly Thursday night bass tournament at Moss Lake. The top three all had something in common, it was a family thing. Brian and Cody Hoyle won with 12.38 and had the big bass with a 3.24 largemouth. Second went to Buddy and Micheal Black with 1038, close behind in third was Robert and Bruce Page with 10.37. Fourth went to Jeff Terry and Keith Messick with 10.14. Rounding out the top five was Larry Denton and Jim Carroll with 9.44. If anyone has any suggestions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina.rr.com. GROVER ST., SHELBY, NC 704-481-0707 www.mccrackenmarine.com This week marks the beginning of turkey season in my area. After months away from matching wits with a big gobbler, I’m excited to hear his familiar sound echo throughout the woods. His voice is unique to all of hunting and yet is so recognizable. It really doesn’t take a great hunter to know when he is in turkey country. He does not have to look for the signs, only listen for the sounds. He will let you know where he is hang- ing out. What makes hunting this bird diffi cult however, is getting from where you are to where he is. It is overcoming the ob- stacles that may lie between you. In my area, it is maneuvering the creeks, hol- lows and thickets in order for there to be a clear course for our paths to meet. I will have a greater chance to succeed in getting a shot at that bird if I can close the distance. Otherwise, my gobbler will fi nd plenty of other suitable reasons to stop along the way or it may simply be unable to get to where I’m at. Many times, however, the terrain between the bird and me is impossible for me to get through. On those days I go home empty-handed. Many people pursue God this way. They hear His call and begin their jour- ney toward Him. They feel it is their job PETS • LIVESTOCK PETS • LIVESTOCK HORSE TACK CLEARANCE: All new inventory. Saddles start- ing at $140. If you see a large bass BASS BITES ASS BITES swipe and miss your lure, immediately toss a different lure back in the same place. Plastic worms, hard or soft jerk baits, suspended minnow plugs, and other slow-moving lures are the best. Try a large triple wing buzz bait around cover on cloudy days when the water is warm and the surface is calm and unrippled. Troll with deep-diving plugs in deep water. Use big-lipped divers that will dig along the bottom. Slowly troll with 60 to 100 feet of line out. Pay special attention to channels, humps, and shoals. Small lakes that are not heavily pressured tend to be very good bets for catching large bass because the fish are more accessible throughout the season. Thursday, March 31-April 6, 2011 Outdoor Connection BruceFISHINGu e Camp’s REPOR REPORT Kosa Local FISHING ...get out & enjoy nature! Outdoor Truths Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ to close the dis- tance. It begins with a plan; one that involves how they will get to God or Heaven. That plan always involves a thorough cleaning up of one’s self. It continues with a comparison – making sure their skill is as good as any one else’s. And it concludes with a determi- nation based upon one’s own ability. The problem is this plan will always end up with a chasm between them and God that cannot be overcome by human ef- fort. What this means is that you and I cannot get to God. He must come to us. And this is what He did in sending Je- sus into the world. When we could not get to where He was, He came to us. What we must remember is that God is pursuing us and in that He is not ask- ing us to even meet Him halfway. What He is asking is that we would admit that we are effortless in spanning the gap between us and God, that we recognize Jesus as the answer to our need, and that we put all of our hope and trust in Him. All of the work is not on our part, but on God’s. And God’s pursuit of us will always end with success. www.outdoortruth .or www.outdoortruths.org SHELBY COME SEE THE EXPERT TRANSMISSION RANSMISSION Service & PSPECIALISTS PECIALISTS vice & Parts ts Work Guaranteed 734 Nallel y Dr. She b NC Shelbl y, NC 704-482-8756 Hal 704-482-8756 Hal Jimmy Jimmy Lyle yle Fundraiser Dinner NRA Neil Center in Shelby April 2, 2011 at 6 pm The Pre Event Raf e • Custom Engraved AR-15 For ticket info call Scott • 704 538 1000 or 704 473 8462 Tommy • 704 692 0005 ork Guaranteed 734 Na ley Dr COME SEE THE EXPERTS HELBY MOTORCYCLE/ATV Antioch Speedway - Morganton, NC Saturday, April 2, 2011 For Race Information During The Weekdays Call 704-484-9000 Nights & Weekends Call 704-214-3283 • Race Day Only 704-477-3375 Only $7.00 Gate Fee DIRECTIONS: 2850 Racetrack Rd. • Morganton, NC.
