The event was held to raise money for her medical expenses. Dana is currently experiencing medical problems, which began on November 11, 2010. She began feeling hot, her arms and legs became numb. She was then taken to the Cleveland Regional Hospital Emergency Room. After some preliminary testing she was sent home. The next day she returned to the hospital for more testing. An answer to her problem could not be found, so she was transferred to Kings Mountain Hospital for additional testing. After eight days, Dana found that she could not walk. She is now using a wheel chair and still seeking answers to her medical problems. As a result, Dana and her husband Benjy will leave March 27 for the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida to seek answers for this medical condition. They have two daughters, seven year old Hannah and six year old Joanna. The fundraiser was held this past Saturday at the Challenger 3 picnic area. “Dollars for Dana” featured a BBQ dinner, an auction of donated items, and a raffle for a grill. It is estimated that over 800 people turned out to be among the volunteers wearing “Team Dana” shirts. The shirts bore the biblical quote: “For I know the plans I have for you”, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11. Her husband will tell you, Dana’s attitude is: “super positive!” Caring neighbors, friends and family all came to help. If you would like to participate, you can still make a contribution and send it to: “Dollars for Dana” c/o Debbie Horne, Farm Bureau, P.O. Box 126, Shelby, N. C. 28151. Dana and her family wish to express their since thanks for all who helped and continue to do so. –M. A. Cleveland Community College Trustee Receives Order Of The Long Leaf Pine Cleveland Community College Board of Trustee, Dr. Gene Yarboro, was presented the Order of the Long Leaf Pine from North Carolina Governor, Beverly Perdue, during the recent CCC Board of Trustees meeting. Board Chairman, Hoyt Q. Bailey, presented Yarboro with the award as Yarboro’s wife, Margaret, and other family members surrounded him for the presen- tation. Dr. Yarboro served the State of North Carolina for 60 years as a licensed Veterinarian. For decades, he served hundreds of beef and dairy producers and just weeks ago concluded his practice of Veterinary Medicine for companion animals. During his career he volunteered to mentor students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary science and served as a precep- tor for students in veterinary programs. His interest in the local community allowed him to advance local public health through education, disease eradication, and prevention activities with his service on the Cleveland County Board of Health. Dr. Yarboro’s interest in education and commitment to helping area citizens achieve their career, professional, and educational goals is exemplified by his 21 years of service as a member of the Board of Trustees of Cleveland Community College. The certificate from Governor Beverly Perdue reads: Reposing special confidence in the integrity, learning, and zeal of Dr. L.
