A very slow moving front will crawl across the Deep South and several waves of low pressure will develop along the front, pulling in copious Gulf and Atlantic moisture and aim it right into the Southeast. There could be too much rain in fact in some parts of the Appalachians and Ohio Valley this week- end, where as much as 4” of rain could fall, and I’m expect- ing a general 1 to 2” of rain across our area of the Carolinas. Just enough cold air may work into the system late Sunday for a switchover to snow in the mountains, before the whole system pulls up the East Coast as a big rain maker along I-95. After this, like a typical March pattern, we turn briefly colder and then later next week we could repeat this whole process. A much bigger cold airmass looks poised to come down by mid month, which may deliver a hard freeze to the South.
