Gary Pancake, Assistant; Sunday morning worship 10:30 a.m. We had a very nice crowd last Sunday. It was so good to see all of the children. We appreciate everyone who took the time to make sure the kids were in church. They are not only the church of tomorrow, but the church of today. We appreciated Ryan for his special sermon. We need to use our talents in the new year, not just bury them. There is much to do as we become lighthouses for Christ. Make sure you use yours in 2014. Here is our New Year's wish to all of you: A New Year with the Lord A new year is about to unfold, with new opportunities to explore. Doors will open for new experiences, new adventures with the Lord. Remember not the former things, the things of this past year, the Lord will do new things in us, much more than we are aware. For He will make a way for us, as we put our trust in Him and He will guide our every step, by His presence we have within. What God has placed within our hearts, we find we'll be able to do, if we look for the opportunities, we'll see the door to go through. We mustn't let anything hold us back, but rise up and take our place and be all that God wants us to be, with a fresh touch of His grace— M.S.Lowndes. We will have Communion at the church on Sunday, January 5, during our worship service. Fellowship Sunday will be, January 12. We will be winslow g.b. church Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship and children's church at 10:30 a.m.; youth group 4:30 to 6 p.m.; Sunday evening worship 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, adult Bible study 6:30 p.m. The first Wednesday of each month Advisory Board meeting before Bible study. Prayer "One good reason why we should pray is because God can do more in one second than what we can for ourselves in a lifetime"— Anonymous. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7). Be in prayer this week for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. Note the new days and times. We all have many friends plus family who are in our neighborhoods, and in many towns and cities all around the country in which we live, that we remember them in our prayers. We should help them in some way to ease the thing that is oppressing them, causing them not to enjoy the surroundings we all share. Events coming up in Winslow and the surrounding areas: Dec. 31—New Year's Eve—Parties will be hosted in many places and some may not celebrate at all, but play it safe, and don't drink and drive. A better way is to stay somewhere safe until morning or have someone to pick you up that hasn't had that strong drink. New Year's thought The Apostle Paul said, "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 3:14). "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself" (Philippians 3:20-21). No postcards this week, but we received Christmas cards that were comforting to read. Notes of upcoming events, birthday or anniversary or any other things of interest are welcome at Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. Vernon Arnold invited us to a Christmas Eve service with hymns sung, a meditation on faith, peace, love and joy, with a prayer and lighting of the candle. Refreshments of soup and salad were served in the fellowship hall following the service. We enjoyed our visitation with new friends. On Christmas Day, 16 members of our family gathered. A family meal was served with many desserts. We made homemade gifts and it was such a hit, we are going to continue it in 2014. Besides my mom, sister and brother, and their family, Laura, Daniel and Kyana, Dagmar, Karen and Vernon also helped share our family tradition of old fashion fun. The younger ones, Kyana and Jacari, had much fun as they opened their gifts, playing inside and outside. We do hope your day was grand and the togetherness with family and friends was more than you expected. Rain came into our area last week and the rivers and streams were overflowing. Riverside Park area was practically covered with water that came up to the bottom of the concrete tables at one time. The Eskimo was standing on water, the beaver had water halfway up to where his arms were, then the overlook wasn't under water. Several roadways were under water. The lights are about to dim on this week and our hope is that everyone enters into 2014 with a sense that this is going to be the best year ever for others and ourselves. always smile, wave and say "hi" to all you meet this week.
