Christmas is a very important time of year. It's a time of year when the whole world is hearing the message of the birth of Jesus. It's a time when people are tenderhearted...the perfect time to plant seeds of love in the lives of those you meet. Sometimes those seeds may just take the form of a kind word in the middle of rush-hour shopping. Other times you may get the opportunity to pray and minister to someone. But whatever the situation, keep a sharp eye out for even the smallest chance to assist people. Spread the word about the peace that's available in Jesus. Tell about His goodwill toward men. You are welcome to worship with us. Have a great week in the Lord. Alec Hensley, Pastor Eleanor Bellamy, Reporter pleasant grove g.b. church Spraggins Sunday school 9:30 a.m., Kathy Miller, superintendent; Michael Miller, morning speaker 10:30 a.m. Everyone welcome. Sunday school lesson for Dec. 15—Zechariah's prophecies about his son, John. Last week's trivia question and answer: Mary said that future generations would call her what? Answer: Blessed (Luke 1:48). Next week's trivia question: How did Zechariah convey that his son's name would be John? Hint—Luke. Mini message: Special sons Throughout Biblical history, there were many Godgiven announcements of the birth of a special son. Sarah was blessed with Isaac, Elizabeth with John the Baptist. Family lines and family names were important to the Jews. It was through this Jewish lineage that the most special of all the sons born would be born to the virgin girl, Mary. Jesus was born into a world of sin to overcome that sin, to ensure a plan of salvations for every man, woman and child. This special son reigns eternally and so may we. Until next week—Live in the light. Fred Faith, Deacon Kathy Miller, Reporter First Christian Church 1400 E. Saturday, Dec. 14, Gene Burkhart will be bringing the Word of God. Get what you can Some folks do not read the Bible because, they say, there are so many things in the Book that they cannot understand. It is said that these things which cannot be understood trouble them. Of course these are excuses. What does one do when he sits down to a Southernfried chicken dinner and finds there are bones in the chicken which he is unable to chew? Does he excuse himself, and say, "I can't chew the bony parts of the chicken, therefore I won't try to eat any of it?" Hardly. He merely puts the bones to one side and eats the edible part of the chicken. Why not put at least this much effort into Bible reading? One rescued sinner said, "The fact that I am alive and on my way somewhere really caused me anxious moments, until I found the answer in the Bible. When I found it, it prompted me to let the shed blood of Christ cleanse me from my sins. God saved me and gave me the assurance of it, and I began to study the Bible, digesting the parts God's Holy Spirit led me to understand, and setting the rest aside, until He opened my eyes to the Truth therein. As God showed me the answers, my worship of Him increased naturally. Oh, indispensable is the Book of books." Bob Shepherd, Reporter PAWS pet of the week What is that? There are no feathers. No bells. What do you do with it? It's Frosty the Snowman. This week PAWS is featuring an inquisitive little kitten named Oreo, who seemed enthralled by all the snow that fell this past week, even though he didn't get to venture out to play in it. This spirited little guy is always looking for a new adventure, which is of utmost priority to most growing kittens. FIRST U.M. CHURCH 801 E. Walnut Petersburg Sunday morning worship 9:30 a.m.; fellowship 10:2510:40 a.m.; Sunday school 10:40-11:30 a.m.; choir practice on Wednesday evening. "Wise men...came to Jerusalem, saying 'Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?'" (Matthew 2:1-2 NKJV. It's said that the three most sought-out words on the Internet today are work, sex and God. Work addresses our need for security; sex addresses our need for companionship and intimacy; God addresses our need to be forgiven, to experience peace and joy, and understand our life's purpose on earth. Deep down we all have a need to experience something bigger than ourselves; someone capable of loving us, protecting and directing us. The good news of Christmas is, you can seek God and find Him, by coming to know Jesus as your own personal Saviour. Hosea called Israel back to God with these words: "Oh, that we might know the Lord. Let us press on to know Him. He will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn" (Hosea 6:3, NLT). Taken in part from The Word for you Today. See you in church next Sunday. Mel Camp, Pastor He is like a sponge soaking up each and every drop of possible understanding as he exams his new habitat at PAWS and the people who scurry in and out of it. Oreo is a short haired tabby with adorable black and white markings and is approximately eight weeks old and would be a perfect stocking stuffer for some lucky little girl or boy. Winslow Church service 9:30 a.m. and Sunday school 10:30 a.m. God's people, the Israelites, witnessed many great miracles as he led them out of slavery in Egypt into "the land that flowed with milk and honey." Even after all of this, He had to warn them to not forget about him when they had gotten comfortable in this promised land. In this Christmas season, it's so easy to get caught up in the activity and buy into the materialism that the world offers and forget the true meaning of it all. "Father, we pray that we will not become so distracted that we forget your most precious gift to us, your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. We thank you that you loved us so much that you would give us your only Son to be the Savior to the world and save us from our slavery to sin. In his name we pray—Amen." "He has sent me to comfort the broken-hearted, to announce liberty to captives and open the eyes of the blind" (Isaiah 61:1).
