By Ed Cahill Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net The Pike Central High School wrestling team recorded 11 pins while overpowering visiting Owensboro (Ky.) by a score of 75-6 in a dual meet on Tuesday, Dec. 3. The Chargers also recorded one win on points and won another match by forfeit. "A lot of the kids really overwhelmed their opponent," Pike Central head coach Billy Hewig said. "That's what we work on every day in practice: overwhelming our opponent. Our kids got to do that, and that was great to see as a coach." Hewig acknowledged that the Red Devils were obviously over-matched against the Chargers, but said it was a good learning experience for both programs. " They're trying," Hewig said. "They're a good bunch of kids. "I got to see what kind of offense my kids can work, instead of them having to wrestle defensively," Hewig added. "I got to see, really, what they know, what they can do, and what we need to work on, so it was a good learning tool for us." Hewig said he was pleased with how "functional" his team wrestled. "They were going out there and taking good shots and not just thinking, 'I'm going to win'," Hewig said. "They went out there and they wrestled like winners, not just like kids that were stronger and faster. They went out there and wrestled tough, and that was great to see."
