If you have news for the paper, you can always call me at 354-6502 or 766-3498 or email me at pikepersonals@wildblue.net or mail it to me at 7438 W. State Rd. 56, Hazleton, IN 47640. Our first park was Hornady Park where the Ministerial Association did a fine job setting up the light displays and the LED lights. We agreed it made the displays brighter and stand out. Hornady has a paddle boat on the lake and a fisherman, a castle, merry-go-round, ice skates, packages and a whole lot more to see. Make sure you go slow to see everything. Norm took video of the displays by sitting on the hood as we drove through the parks. The second place we went to was not lit up as of yet, so we will check on that one later. We also drove to Washington East Side Park, and if you haven't been yet, the displays are great. They had Christmas scenes from nativity, snowmen, children's toys, and play things, to military aircraft, ships and tanks, plus the trees around the lake in all colors. At the entrance was Santa flying a plane with Ho, Ho, Ho. At the end you see a penguin warming by the fire. Take some time out to enjoy what the neighbors have decorated in their yards and more are going up. They have made the holiday a cheerful one. Winter doesn't arrive until Dec. 21 but to make sure the woolly worm isn't teasing us, the area had close to eight inches of snow last Friday and Saturday with sleet and ice, with temperatures dropping into the teens. The county and state roads were slow to travel when it takes two hours to travel from Winslow to Oakland City. Brownstown community, a part of Winslow, has helpful neighbors who come to the aid of clearing the street to helping a neighbor from sliding around too much. Last Sunday, Norm took me to the Jasper ER on his 56th birthday to have me checked out to give us peace of mind that my emphysema didn't turn into pneumonia. It didn't, so more medicine was given me and now the recovery begins again. Norm's birthday was celebrated when Vernon, Norm and I went to a favorite Mexican restaurant. He wore a sombrero and happy birthday was sung following the meal. Time for the lights to dim this week but keep an eye on family and friends during this cold spell, slow down because of the road conditions and deer. Always smile, wave and say "hi" to everyone this week and make their day a little brighter. Warm Up To Quality!
