Postcards I went to the mailbox and received a clipping and also a postcard. I almost forgot how excited I get when one comes in the mail. The clipping was from the Catholicidaho.org— Idaho Catholic Register page 13 on Nov. 15-Dec. 5, 2013, from "On the Trail" by Rosa Yearout, who wrote "Ev- erything has its time;" there was a note that says "Hi Sweets, this article is about how Native Americans honor and bury their dead. I hope you enjoy reading this. Happy holidays—Janie Tormohlen." I wish I could write everything that this article says but here are some excerpts: When annual memorials take place at the various battle sites of the Nez Perce War of 1877, our family and members of the Nez Perce Appaloosa Horse Club often join others on horseback dressed in traditional regalia and horse trappings. The battle sites are part of the Nez Perce National Historical Park. The spiritual leaders and military veterans conduct the ceremony that always begins with a special honor song that Nez Perce Chief Looking Glass and his band sang as they arrived on horseback at Walla Walla when Gov. Isaac Stevens was negotiating treaties with various tribes and bands. All stand while veterans hold the American flag, the Nez Perce tribal flag and an eagle staff. As the riders and their horses are signaled to enter the ceremonial site, they ride single file with male riders first, oldest to youngest, then followed by female riders also by age. There is a horse led in with an empty saddle to honor the memory of those on both sides who sacrificed their lives at the site. If a blanket or other items are tied to the saddle of this horse, the person who did this makes a presentation of the item to someone he or she has chosen and explains the purpose of the presentation. There are more interesting facts in these ceremonies that I have read and there is also a part two of Mythili Gurram, MD, FACAAI Allergy & Asthma Associates of Tri-State Call (812) 473-7225 for an appointment. Have a really great Thanksgiving Day and if you travel somewhere, our hope is that you slow down and watch out other drivers. It's still deer season and they will cross a road to get away from the hunters. If you stay home, may the memories you have and make on this day bring all of our stars the peace and happiness that we are always thankful for this year in some small way. I am thankful to have known all the people I have met and to all our stars I haven't met as of yet. It's always a pleasure to share my words with all of you and I hope it brought a smile to you on a gloomy day. As the lights begin to dim for this week, keep an eye on family and friends and slow down and enjoy what life is all about, but always smile, wave and say "hi" to everybody this week. Happy Thanksgiving. One day Mom said that an old saying was that if, like on her hand rail, a wooly worm is there, it is a measurer for a new porch or room in the fixtures. I hope it's true because Mom needs a porch roof and it would be nice to extend a new room or another log cabin. The wooly worms are black on front and brown to the end of its body and with the bone chilling coldness we have now is right in with the blackness on the wooly worm. There are several Thanksgiving Day decorations that are up like the turkey and Pilgrims, scarecrows and pumpkins, and other fall decorations. There was a time when night time came around on Thanksgiving Day our family would get in the car and drive downtown in St. Louis to see the decorations of moving parts for Christmas. Now we enjoy all the places here in Pike Looking for Convenient Specialty Care? If you would like to read the article just see me, Barb, and I'll let the reading begin. Postcard #568—It's been a long time since we had one in the mailbox. This postcard has a forest of autumn colored trees of green, red and yellow that are in front of the Teton Mountains in Eastern Idaho. On the back it says, "Happy holidays— Janie." We always love to hear from Janie. Hope you have a great holiday. Norm and I did a historical moment at the cabin in Brownstown and it all started when we saw a bed with a wooden headboard and footboard that would just look the part in our cabin. We set it up on Thursday, Nov. 21, spent the night and loved it so much we spent all day Friday and into Saturday morning with kerosene heat to keep us warm with a room temperature of 82 degrees. On Saturday, the temp was to dip in the teens so we came back to the house to keep warm but we were really excited to spend some time and enjoy what has been done to our cabin in less than one year. It's not exactly finished, for we still have chinking and more insulating to do, but for now until the cold spell leaves, we know how our New Year will be this year with family and friends at the cabin. We had a knock on the cabin door the other day and it was George Bruce who said "this box is for all the work you do in the Town of Winslow." To George Bruce and his "House of Mercy" members, we appreciate your generosity of giving on this Thanksgiving season. While he was there, he saw the inside work that I have written about and said there are a lot of people that wished they had this type of cabin to live in or own. We have a wooly worm in Gibson General Hospital is pleased to welcome Dr. Srinivasan Rao and the Acute Care Nurse Practitioners of Digestive Care Center.
