"Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers" (III John 1:2). The prosperity or the peace and wholeness of our souls is so important. As our souls are sowed into, our livelihoods and physical well being will be effected. As we renew our minds to the Word of God, it causes our souls to prosper. Let's make a conscious effort to make our minds line up with the Word today. Website: www.livingfc. org. Facebook: www.facebook.com/Livingfaithchurchintl. Young, Reporter Patok a Grove U.M. Church 1325 W. Co. Rd. 475 S. Winslow Church 9:30 a.m. and Sunday school 10:30 a.m. In II Chronicles 20, King Jehoshaphat is warned of "a vast army marching against him." The Moabites, the Ammonites and the Meunites had declared war against Judah. Jehoshaphat was badly shaken. He declared a time of fasting and prayer. He said, "Lord we don't know what to do, but we are looking to you." He reminded God how He had rescued them in the past. They worshipped God with praise and thanksgiving and confessed their confidence that He would give them victory again. Then the Lord said, "Don't be afraid. Don't be paralyzed by this mighty army. For the battle is not yours, but God's. Take your places; stand quietly and see the deliverance of the Lord." What "ites" are coming against you? Is it the depression-ites, the fear of tomorrow-ites, the sickness and disease-ites? Whatever "ites" are coming against us are not more powerful than our God. God caused the enemies of King Jehoshaphat to fight among themselves and they destroyed each other. God can do the same for us. This Thanksgiving, remember all the things you can be thankful for and let him handle whatever "ite" you may be facing. We are so excited because our church building has gotten a much needed facelift. Come and see what the Lord has allowed us to do. Larry Stoops, Pastor Stacy McLain, Reporter Continued on page 6 FREE CHECK Scripture Reading: "Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken" (Habakkuk 2:15). There are many passages in the Word of God, such as the above, that are timeless and transcend all the dispensations of God. While the liquor industry goes to great lengths to get people to believe that drinking is a harmless way to have a good time, the facts are otherwise. They are very careful never to advertise the drunk driver who kills innocent people or the homes that have been destroyed by strong drink. But a voice in the crowd says that a few social drinks will never hurt anyone. Most recovering alcoholics, however, tell a much different story of how their slide into a life of drunkenness all started with a social drink. "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise" (Proverbs 20:1). A couple of years ago, I was driving through Apollo, Pennsylvania where I saw a piece of twisted wreckage along side of the road. Upon slowing down, I discovered that it was an automobile, or at least what was left of it. Apparently someone survived the crash because there were beer cans strategically placed beside the car along with a sign at the rear bumper which read, "And they told us we were going to have fun." Someone lied! While the world refers to alcoholism as a disease, the Word of God calls drunkenness a sin. It is not a disease, it is a matter of choice. Oh, the sorrow and heartache that has been caused by careless men and women who have given themselves over to the treachery of this sin. The answer is not found in the bottom of a bottle — the answer is Christ. Only He can deliver the drunkard from his drunkenness. Therefore, a life yielded to God is the solution to the bondage of this terrible sin. Throughout the year social gatherings often bring with them a strong temptation to join the crowd. For those who struggle with this temptation, it is important to remember that the victory is already yours though Christ Jesus our Lord. Simply claim it! Then live one day at a time, by God's grace, for His grace is more than sufficient (II Corinthians 12:9). Amen! Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin Reasons to be thankful Our National Thanksgiving Day was born out of hardship and suffering. The celebration first commemorated the harvest of the Plymouth Colony in 1621. The day of praise and thanksgiving to God followed a winter of great hardship. It was President Abraham Lincoln who officially, in 1863, proclaimed the third Thursday in November as a day set apart for the nation to give thanks to God. This has always been a religious holiday and a time to give thanks for our blessings. America is in a period of great hardship and danger. Political correctness and a move toward socialism threaten the very roots of our great spiritual heritage. In the midst of all the political corruption, hateful words, and moral decline we still have many blessings at this Thanksgiving Season. It is true our schools, government, and American way of life are under attack. Most of the elite media have joined with corrupt politicians to promote the destruction of Christianity. A thinking, open minded person needs to review only the past ten years to see a nation being destroyed from with- in. The moral decline, political correctness, union control of our schools and many workplaces reminds us all is not well in America. Recently I have restudied the rise and fall of Germany under Hitler. Since the Iron Curtain came down in Russia I have reviewed their tragic history. I have spent approximately 100 days in Russia. I have talked to their ordinary citizens and met with many government officials. They would talk about 70 years without God. Many would say our sorrow and troubles came because the Russian people forgot God. My associates assisted me in giving the people more than 100,000 Russian Bibles. They would stand in line and walk miles to get a Bible. This Thanksgiving let us give praise to God and do our best to protect and preserve America and keep the faith.
