The relay team of Frederick, Claridge, Kendall Dudenhoeffer and Sutherland placed second in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay. The relay team of Davis, Gray, Henson and freshman Katelyn Foster placed third in the 200-yard freestyle relay and fifth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, while the relay team of Cummings, Helen Dudenhoeffer, Keepes and Luff placed third in the 400-yard freestyle relay and fourth in the 200-yard medley relay. Pike Central, which held a slim lead in the points standings heading into the final event, finished second in the tri-meet with 116 points, just one point behind Evansville Central. Bosse was third with 70 points. "We had Kendall Dudenhoeffer get sick early in the meet and we had to pull her out of an event," McKinney said. "If everything was perfect, then we would have walked away with a win. But I'm not going to swim a kid that's sick to do so. It's not worth that." McKinney said that he was generally pleased with how the Lady Chargers swam in their first meet. "We've got stuff to work on, but I was really impressed by how the girls swam," McK inney said. "They did a great job, overall." The Pike Central High School boys' and girls' swimming teams will host Heritage Hills on Monday, Dec. 2, before going to Boonville on Thursday, Dec. 5. HFall Continued from page B-1 around on it. I think they were able, with the lead, to rest her and let the other kids play." The Lady Alices, in one stretch, hit seven straight field goal attempts, including one from beyond the threepoint line, after making just two of their first nine shots. "They shot the ball well there in the first half, especially the second quarter," Graham said. "We just weren't able to respond." The Lady Alices stretched their lead to 41-23 on a pair of free throws by sophomore guard Jene'e Goodwin with 5:04 left in the third quarter before Pike Central scored four straight points, on a basket by junior forward Lindsey Catt and a pair of free throws by sophomore forward/center Samantha Halbrader, to pull to within 41-27. "That was it then," Graham said. "We wanted to win the quarter and just chip away at it. We didn't feel like we had to get it all back at once." Whitehead, who had suffered a sprained left ankle while scrambling after a loose ball late in the first quarter, saw limited action in the second and third periods before being removed from the game. "We had tried playing Jo a little bit in the second quarter and then we waited until the second half to give her more opportunity to move around on it at halftime," Graham said. "Once the game got out of hand, we felt like there was no sense in risking further injury, so we sat her." "She had a good start to the game," Graham added. "She had five points pretty quick and was doing some good things. She's just one of those kids that's versatile, so when we make substitutions, I can move her around anywhere I want because of her size and her skill set. Not having her out there changed some things for us." Catt led Pike Central in scoring with nine points while Whitehead and sophomore guard Alyx Abbott added seven points each. Halbrader and senior forward Emily Howes had five points each. Senior guard Stephanie Richardson and senior forward Kaylee Hadley scored two points apiece while junior forward/center Lindsey Nixon scored one point. Howes had a team-high five rebounds while Halbrader and junior forward Alicia Hanselman both grabbed four. Abbott and Halbrader dished out two assists each. Abbott also had a game-high four steals. For the game, the Lady Chargers made 13 of 54 field goal attempts, a 24.1 percent average, and hit 13 of 22 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 19 times. Goodwin paced Vincennes Lincoln with 13 points while senior center Mackenzie Small added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds. In addition to Carmean, freshman forward Haleigh Hipsher reached double figures in scoring with 10 points while leading the Lady Alices with three steals. For the game, Vincennes Lincoln made 22 of 47 field goal attempts, a 46.8 percent average, and hit 11 of 21 tries from the free throw line while turning the ball over 15 times. "We'll break the film down; there's some things that we can take away that we did well," Graham said. "The biggest thing is we've got to be more aggressive with the basketball. There's time that we're very passive and willing to pass the ball versus trying to drive the ball and finish a play or create for somebody." "Teams are going to continue to put pressure on Emily Howes," Graham added. "She missed some open shots tonight but I'd put her shooting the ball up against most kids any night. Teams are going to key on her until we show that we've got that balance. We've got to have that scoring mentality out of all our kids."
