Erin Lance, 27, of 108 S. 1225 E. Oakland City, was arrested at 2:30 p.m. by Pike County Deputy Chad Tharp. Deputy Tharp said he was patrolling for "smurfing," or buying ingredients to make meth, after reports were issued of out-of-county residents making multiple purchases of pseudoephedrine within minutes of each other. In his report, Tharp stated he witnessed a woman leave CVS and drive south on Highway 57. He followed her and noticed her go left of center near the Oatsville Road. He stopped the vehicle at the Pike-Gibson County line. Tharp said he was able to access a national log that showed Lance, who was driving, had purchased pseudoephedrine at CVS and her passenger Michael Mitchell had also purchased pseudoephedrine six minutes later. Tharp said while he was searching her vehicle he heard Pike County Deputy Todd Meadors, who was assisting with the investigation, tell Lance to "drop it." Tharp in his report said Lance was removing an item from her bra. He walked over and found a red, one-hitter pipe in her shirt and Lance was trying to get rid of it. He said the pipe contained a burnt marijuana residue. She was taken into custody. Tharp said Lance had hidden a box of pseudoephedrine in her pants and Mitchell had hidden a box under his seat. Officer Simmons said at 2 a.m. he was called to the Liberty Apts. When he arrived, he was told by Brandon Dononhoo and Taylor Clark that Pride showed up at their apartment at about 2 a.m. and started beating on their door asking if he could stay there. Dononhoo said he told Pride no and to leave, but Pride became angry and tried to force his way into the apartment. Eventually, after being told repeatedly to leave, he ran down the stairs and broke out a light fixture and ran towards Highway 61. Sheriff's Deputies Dallas Killian and Brad Jenkins went to that area and located Pride, who resisted when they tried to detain him. Officer Simmons said Pride tested three times the legal limit for blood alcohol content on a portable breath test. Pike County Deputy Sheriff Jeff Boger said there was some standing water on the road that caused Prose to hydroplane and go left of center off the roadway. Deputy Boger said Prose's truck rolled over at least once. Prose called 911 and stayed in the truck until EMS Director Chris Young arrived and helped him out. He was uninjured, but his Dodge truck was a total loss in the 11:10 p.m. accident. Deputy Boger said that is the third accident in that spot in the last year.
