The Savior's Grief Evangelist Gypsy Smith said that once, when a group of gypsies were forced to cross a swollen stream, a great number of men were drowned. One young man made a desperate attempt to save his mother who kept clinging to him. Several times he pushed her away, saying, "Let go, Mother, and I can save you." But she would not heed him and was lost. At the funeral, the son stood by his mother's grave and said over and over, "How hard I tried to save you, Mother, but you wouldn't let me." These are the tragic words that we shall hear Jesus Christ say to many in eternity one day, "How hard I tried to save you, but you wouldn't let me. Your will was the great hindrance." Bob Shepherd, Reporter St. Peter Lutheran Church Stendal Bible verse for the week: "He made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfillment to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ" (Ephesians 1:9-10 NIV). Winslow "Look at the lilies. They don't toil and spin, and yet Solomon in all his glory was not robed as well as they are. And if God provides clothing for the flowers that they are here today and gone tomorrow, don't you suppose that He will provide clothing for you, you doubters?" "And don't worry about food—what to eat and what to drink; don't worry at all that God will provide it for you. All mankind scratches for its daily bread, but your Heavenly Father knows your needs. He will always give you all you need from day to day if you will make the Kingdom of God your primary concern" (Luke 12:27-31). One of Satan's greatest weapons he uses against believers is fear. Church Godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of. Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us (our) sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. The blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. Mind iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me. Turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually. Keith Jenkins Sr., Pastor Jamie Jenkins, Reporter The wonder of God It is kind of exciting to watch our children go through periods of growth. Parents can usually detect it. When growing, children's appetites can easily double or triple. Without being told, they often take much more time for rest or sleep. Physically, you'll soon notice your child's limbs have grown longer (making it obvious it's time to buy them new clothes—again), and their whole appearance begins to change. What is even more thrilling is when you witness a real growth in their maturity too. When the Apostle Paul wrote to believers in Thessalonica, he could praise them by saying, "your faith groweth exceedingly" (II Thessalonians 1:3). Now, how did he know they were growing spiritually? It was easy, because three things were evident in them. First, he told them their "charity [or love] of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth" (II Thessalonians 1:3). No growth in this area equals little or no growth at all. Second and third, they exhibited "patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations" (II Thessalonians Religious Viewpoint by Clyde Dupin The healing power of forgiveness After many years as a Christian minister I have spent a lot of time working with the lonely, defeated, rejected and broken. I find a common thread in many of their lives. We need to learn the lessons Jesus taught us about love and forgiveness. In our world the ugliness of rage, jealousy, unforgiveness and retaliation destroys many lives. Many fail to forgive a wrong they've suffered or a perceived injustice. Unforgiveness is a burden our emotional, physical and spiritual life cannot carry. Jesus taught us what total forgiveness and restoration are all about. His willingness to forgive us is so we can become capable of forgiving others. We can only live a happy, fulfilled life when we experience the peace of total forgiveness. We must let go of all grudges and bitter feelings toward those who do us wrong. The practice of forgiveness is how God heals broken families, damaged friendships and work related conflicts. Learn to say forgive me, I am sorry and be quick to apologize. In the last year I have heard more critical, unkind and mean words spoken by pol- iticians than during my lifetime. Even pastors often use unkind and judgmental words when speaking of other members of God's family. We cannot have a society of peace and tranquility but speak of hate and revenge. Forgiveness is the way God saves the sinner and changes lives. To be forgiven we must forgive. To be happy Christians must engage in the costly practice of radical forgiveness. I have counseled with hundreds of people bound by the emotional pain of an unforgiving spirit. Those you once despised can be forgiven and loved. In a broken world framed in revenge and envy we must build our relationships with the healing grace of God. Jesus promotes healing for the broken, wounded, wronged, misunderstood, and rejected through forgiveness. MaiN Street, OaklaNd City 812-749-3700 Jeffrey D. Irvin, O.D. 1:4). It takes spiritual life and growth to react positively toward negative circumstances. But these believers were growing enough spiritually that they endured wrongs, not for doing wrong, but for the cause of Christ, and they did so without losing their cool or faith in God's care. The spiritual growth of these believers should come as no surprise. They had "received the Word of God…not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the Word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe" (I Thes. 2:13). It seems they had a real appetite for the Scriptures, regularly took time for it, and allowed the truths they were learning to transform the way they lived. This passage should cause each of us to ask ourselves, "Am I growing spiritually? I ought to be and need to be growing in Christ. I'll know for sure if I'm growing in the Lord by the presence of these three qualities exhibited in the saints at Thessalonica. Am I growing spiritually?" winslow christian church Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m.; Wednesday choir practice 6:30 p.m. Remember to pray daily for those on our November prayer list.
