Registered voters who do not have an accept- able identification card for voting in North Caro- lina can now go to their county board of elections office to get a free ID. Most voters have a North Carolina driver's license, an acceptable form of photo ID for vot- ing. Those voters do not need to obtain a sepa- rate ID from their county board. Other common forms of acceptable ID in- clude military or veterans ID cards issued by the federal government and college student and pub- lic employer ID cards that the State Board approved for use in voting. For a full list of acceptable forms of photo ID for voting, see the State Board's website at Voter ID. Registered voters who do not have an accept- able form of identification for voting purposes can now get a free photo ID from their county board of elections office. No special documents are needed. Voters will sim- ply provide their name, date of birth, and the last four digits of their Social Security number, and have their photo taken. In most counties, vot- ers can get an ID printed and given to them on the spot. A few coun- ties may need to get the required informa- tion from the voter, take their photo, then mail the ID card to the voter or inform the voter that the ID card is ready to be picked up, whichever the voter prefers. Voters with questions about the ID process should con- tact their county board of elections. A free voter photo ID will include the voter's photo, name, and regis- tration number. They will expire 10 years from the date of issuance. The county boards of elec- tions can issue cards at any time during regular business hours, except for the period following the last day of early vot- ing through Election Day. "Any voter who does not have an acceptable ID card for voting can now get a free ID from their county board of elections," said Karen Brinson Bell, execu- tive director of the State Board of Elections. "State Board staff has worked diligently with the county boards of elections over the past couple of months to get the necessary soft- ware and hardware for ID printing." Voters also can get a free ID from the N.C. Di- vision of Motor Vehicles (NCDMV). Find more in- formation under "No-Fee ID Cards" at State IDs | NCDMV. Voters can now get Free photo ID cards from County Boards of Elections (4TH & Final Part of "DISTRACTIONS" Series) If you ever have had a crying toddler or busy young child, one effective technique that a parent or caregiver does is to redirect the child's attention to something else more appropriate. It usually works to calm down the child or keep them in a happy place. As adults, we become worried or overwhelmed about problems that seem to be unsolvable. The more we dwell on the problem, the more frustrated or distraught we become. I believe our heavenly Father wants us to take our attention away from those distress- ful thoughts and put them on the one who has the solution. Hebrews 12:2 (AMP) says, "[looking away from all that will dis- tract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. Seek the Lord King David is a great example of dem- onstrating how to redirect our attention away from trouble to the problem solver. David and his crew had come home to Ziglag and found that his entire town had been burned to the ground. If that wasn't enough, all the women and children were stolen by his enemy, the Amalekites. They were so devastated that they cried until they were exhausted from crying. On top of that, David was in great danger because all of his soldiers who were grieved about los- ing their wives and children were talking about stoning him. What would you do in that extreme situa- tion? David tapped into his source of strength by focus- ing his attention on God and seek- ing him in prayer. I Samuel 30:6b-7 (NKJV) "But David strengthened him- self in the Lord his God. Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech's son, "Please bring the ephod here to me." And Abiathar brought the ephod to David. So David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail to recover all. PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Lord, your unfailing love is better than life itself; I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer. You are my strength and shield. I trust you with all my heart. You are always helping me, and filling my heart with joy. Father for- give me for being distracted by my prob- lems. Remind me to always look to you and to focus my eyes on your word. You are my help, a strong tower in times of trouble and you know those who trust in you. Teach me your ways, O LORD, that I may live accord- ing to your truth! Grant me purity of heart, so that I may honor you."wIn Jesus' name, I pray - Amen."
