Thursday, August 31-September 6, 2023 www.rutherfordweekly.com 828-248-1408 Rutherford Weekly - Page 3 Beginning in September, the Foothills Library Consortium will offer free admission to several attractions in the region via ZOOM Passes for library cardholders in Rutherford County. "What you can do with your library card just keeps getting better. Our libraries are beyond excited to be partnering with several fun and educational attractions within an easy drive for most members of our community. If you haven't used your library card in a while, now is a great time to stop by and fi nd out about everything your card offers, including free admission to these attractions," said April Young, director for the Rutherford County Library System. ZOOM passes enable adults with a library card in good standing at any public library in Rutherford County to reserve a one- day pass to a park or museum, free of charge. The passes can be reserved online but must be picked up three days before the reserved date at the offering library. Each library in the consortium will offer a pass to a different location. Within the Rutherford County Library System, cardholders can pick up passes for Chimney Rock State Park at Mountains Branch Library, The North Carolina Arboretum at the County Library, and The Children's Museum of the Upstate at Haynes Branch Library. The passes for The Children's Museum of the Upstate will work at both their Spartanburg and Greenville locations. Erika Crawford, branch manager for Haynes Branch Library in Henrietta, is excited about the passes. "I think it will be benefi cial to the families in our community," added Crawford. At Norris Public Library in Rutherfordton, cardholders will be able to reserve ZOOM passes to KidSenses Children's Interactive Museum, also located in downtown Rutherfordton. "We're thankful to have a great ongoing partnership with KidSenses," said Sarah Ross, director for Norris Public Library. "We've enjoyed working with them on everything from school outreach to the selection of quality STEM books for kids, and we're thrilled to be able to offer our library families a pass to their amazing museum." Mooneyham Public Library in Forest City will have passes for Hands On! Children's Museum in Hendersonville. "We are happy to partner with all the public libraries in the Foothills Consortium to provide these free experiences to residents and families here in Rutherford County. There are many wonderful attractions in the area, and the ZOOM Pass Program will afford our patrons the opportunity to enjoy them without worrying about the expense," said Denise Strickland, library coordinator for Mooneyham Public Library. At Spindale Public Library, patrons will be able to reserve passes for The WNC Nature Center in Asheville. "We are so happy to be able to offer Zoom passes to our local families," said Amy Taylor, librarian for Spindale Public Library. Patrons must reserve a pass for their desired attraction a minimum of three days in advance and pick the pass up one to three days before their scheduled visit. There will be a limit of reserving one pass per calendar month. Reservations can be made up to 90 days in advance. Most attractions will allow multiple family members to attend with one pass, but the rules differ slightly between locations. Beginning Sept. 1st, library patrons can visit www. r utherfordcountylibrar y. org/zoom to see available dates, verify each location's rules, and reserve a pass. Registration requires an email address and valid Foothills Library Consortium card number. The Foothills Library Consortium, established in 1995, is a cooperative of the public libraries in Rutherford County. The consortium is comprised of the three branches of the Rutherford County Library System as well as Mooneyham Public Library, Norris Public Library, and Spindale Public Library. Its goal is to share resources and more effi ciently serve the community. The Foothills Consortium is a member of the statewide consortium NC Cardinal, which joins together libraries from over 50 counties. Patrons in Rutherford County have access to over 7 million items in the NC Cardinal catalog.
