By Katherine Beck kbeck@conleynet.com WAUKESHA - A trip to the fair isn't complete without a stomach full of tasty treats. Whether your go-to item is a cream puff or a deep-fried corndog, the Waukesha County Fair will have plenty of classic fair favorites. However, a day at the fair is also about trying something new for many people - whether fried, on a stick, or a combination of ingredients you never even thought of before. New vendors joining the 2023 Waukesha County Fair include Boondocks BBQ, Burg- ers & Brews, which will be serving up rolled pork sandwiches, brisket sandwich- es, smoked chicken sandwiches, homemade chips, homemade red potato salad, baked beans with brisket, smoked mac 'n cheese and Jamaican coleslaw. For something sweet, Emma's Cookie Kitchen will be selling EmSampler Fair Special, EmUltimate Sundae Special, cook- ie dough sundae, deep fried cookie dough, ice cream sandwiches, root beer floats, dreamy orange floats, caramel cashew sundaes and hot fudge sundaes. For something savory and sweet, Jandy's Base Camp will be making waffles with an array of toppings, including chicken tenders with maple syrup. Other sweeter toppings include French Silk, Bourbon, Strawberry Compote, Cream Cheese & Cinnamon and Bananas & Nutella. Other savory options include Beer & Cheese & Brats and Honey Ham & Swiss. New vendor J Makin Jamaican's menu includes jerk chicken, curry chicken, curry shrimp, mixed meat, brown stew chicken, curry goat, fried fish, escovitch fish, ackee and saltfish, callaloo and saltfish. Side dish- es for sale will be rice and beans, mixed vegetables and plantains, along with Jamaican sodas. At the Jammin' Concessions, the menu takes on a Southwest flavor with bloomin' onions, Texas jalapeno fries, quesadillas, cheese steaks, grilled cheese, buffalo chick- en, BBQ pork fries and special burgers. With a different take on beverages is Sippie Hippie which offers CBD add-ons for drinks that include hot or iced coffee drinks and teas. Lemonade will also be sold. For a unique twist on traditional fair foods, head to the K&M Concession stand which will take a corn dog and serve it with a sweet Korean-style batter called the Loco Dog. Other offerings will be onion petals with ranch dressing, deep fried Kool-Aid, deep fried olives (black or green) on a stick, sweet potato fries, lemonade and 10 flavors of shaved ice. Returning vendors include Bistro Ital- iano with Italian beef, Italian sausage and meatball and other sandwiches. George's BBQ will be making turkey legs, pork chop on a stick and Mexican corn. Gertrude's Pretzels will be selling hand-rolled giant pretzels, as well as brats wrapped in pret- zels. For a fun take on potatoes, Jayme's Chipstix offers deep fried potatoes, bacon wrapped tater tots, chili cheese dog tots, buffalo chicken tots and southern BBQ tots. Local company Scrima's Pizza will be sell- ing wood-fired pizza while local nonprofit La Casa de Esperanza will be cooking Mex- ican food. No fair is complete without a cream puff, which will be sold in the Waukesha County 4-H Kitchen, along with baked potatoes, cheeseburgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos, milk and more.
