Jimmy was born September 3, 1953 in Rutherford County to the late Charlie Upton and Laura Daggerhart Upton. He worked as a truck driver/car hauler most of his life. Jimmy grew up going to the Church of the Brethren. In addition to his par- ents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Lillian Gibson, Boyce Upton, Charles Upton, Jr., Margaret Holmes and Betty Rhom. Those left to cher- ish fond memories include his wife of 36 years, Kathy Upton; sons, Jimmy Ray Upton, Jr. (Angie) of Union Mills, Todd Newton of Mooresboro, Jason Upton (Jenny) of Mooresboro and Chad Newton (Lynn) of Mooresboro; two brothers, Floyd Upton of Spindale and Mike Upton (Renee) of Rutherfordton: elven grand- children and ten great-grand- children. A graveside service was held February 28 at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Jason Madison officiating. Jonathan Stephen Hardin Jonathan Stephen Hardin, 85, of Forest City, NC, died Thursday, February 23, 2023. He was the son of James Archibald & Vera Mae Doggett Hardin. Steve was an Industrial Engineer until his retirement. He was married to Mary Houser Hardin for 53 years. Steve is survived by his sons, Gary of Forest City, David (Cindy) of Apex,, and Grant (Lora) of Rock Hill, SC, five grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Robert was born November 11, 1973 in West Palm Beach, Florida to Robert Lawrence Teears, Sr. of Hendersonville and Donna Coleman of Asheville. He was the owner and oper- ator of Teears Enterprises. He was preceded in death by a son, Caleb Teears. In addition to his par- ents, he was survived by his fiancé, Julia Bradley of Rutherfordton; daughters, Julia Teears of Ellenboro and Raven Moody of Rutherfordton; sons, James Teears of Ellenboro and Dallas Beheler of Rutherfordton; brother, Thomas Donald Teears and sister, Jennifer Louise Teears of Asheville. Debra Kay Taylor Debra Kay Taylor, age 64 of King Street, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023. A native of Rutherford County, she is the widow of Michael Nathan Taylor, and was a machine oper- ator having worked in var- ious plastics manufactur- ing plants, the most recent being Wilbert Plastics in Forest City. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters; Brandy Roper and husband Justin, Heather Collins and husband Aaron; two grand- children, a number of sib- lings and other relatives and friends. In addition to her hus- band she was preceded in death by her father Oliver Hoyle, her mother Elizabeth Allen Humphries, and a number of siblings. A celebration of Debra's life will be held at 4PM, March 4, 2023 at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brian Blanchette officiat- ing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Born in Rutherford County, she was the daugh- ter of the late McClure Johnson and Georgia Laughter Johnson, and widow of the late Crayton Toney. Tex worked for Rutherford Electric Membership Corporation for many years and was a member of Florence Baptist Church, Forest City. Survivors include her son, C. Greg Toney and wife Mary; daughter, Rosemari Holland; sister, Betty Lowrance; three grandchil- dren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
