She was born August 5, 1948, to Oliver Bryson (Junior) and Mary Rebecca (Beck) Armstrong. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Thrift and by her brother, Tommy Armstrong. Surviving siblings include Chuck Armstrong with wife Joy, Debbie Robinson with husband Jeff (Bunky), Mary Lynn with husband David, Todd Armstrong, Terrie Smith Armstrong, and Libby Armstrong. Funeral service was held January 31, 2023 at Christ the King Church with Rev. Fr. Peter N. Ascik officiating. JOHN ALBERT McCLAIN John Albert McClain, 82, of Grover, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Born in Rockingham NC, he was the husband of Linda Turner McClain and the son of the late Emanuel J. McClain and Laura Hambright McClain. Surviving Mr. McClain are his children, John Paul McClain of Blacksburg, Glinda Derrick (Gene) of Blacksburg, and Kelly Allen (Phillip) of Grover; and six grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. McClain was preced- ed in death by his sisters, Margaret McClain, Darlene Messer, Ruth Raines, broth- ers, Louis McClain, L.B. McClain, and Gerald "Coot" McClain. Funeral services were held January 31, 2023 at Gordon Mortuary with Rev. Willie Lanier and Buddy Ligon officiating. Interment was in Mountain View Cemetery. HAYWARD DEAN BULLOCK Hayward Dean Bullock, 82, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away on January 29, 2023. Dean was born in Cherokee County, SC, son of the late Lester Hayward and Victoria Carroll Bullock and was preceded in death by his brother, David Bullock and a sister Thelma Burton. Mr. Bullock served our country in the North Carolina National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Sue Patterson Bullock of the home; sons: Charles Bullock, Terry Bullock, and Chris Bullock and wife Rhonda, all of Kings Mountain, NC; daugh- ter, Cindy King and husband Eric, Kings Mountain, NC; sisters: Nell Moore, Kings Mountain, NC, Ruth Burris, Albemarle, NC, and Shirley Stamey, Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Funeral service was held February 2, 2023 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Carey Caldwell officiating. Interment was at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain, NC. CAROLYN LAWSON Carolyn Lawson, age 78, of Ellenboro, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023. Carolyn was born Tuesday, January 2, 1945 in Rutherford County to the late Bunion D. Hensley and MARIANNE VIRGINIA BAKER Marianne Virginia Baker, 92, of Shelby, NC, passed away on January 28, 2023. She was born in Kenosha County, WI, daughter of the late Alex and Victoria Pawinski Kleist and was preceded in death by her husband, Willard "Bill" Baker Jr.; a daughter, Victoria Carpenter; a granddaughter; and her brothers, Gene and Raymond Kleist. Mrs. Baker is survived by her son, Billy Baker, Gastonia, NC; daughters: Pam Baker, Kings Mountain, NC and Bonnie Lawrenz and husband; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Born in Cleveland County he was the only child of the late Barney Paris Peeler, Jr. and Edythe Mull Peeler. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Whitworth Peeler; two sons, Garry Peeler of Lawndale and Ben Peeler of Shelby; stepdaughter, Amy Lamascus of Holly Springs; and four grandchildren. A graveside service was held January 31, 2023 at Kadesh Church Cemetery with the Rev. Beth Osbahr and Rev. George Eubanks officiating. Phillip Ray Rucker,Sr., "Pops", age 93, of Shelby, passed away on Saturday, January, 14, 2023. Phil was born May 26, 1929. His parents are the late William Ralph Rucker, Sr. and Pearl Glascoe Rucker. Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Webb Rucker; his brother, William Ralph "Tink" Rucker (Betty), Jr.; and his sisters: Mary Lillian Spangler (Ed) and Chris (Lewis) Rucker Wilson. Mr. Rucker served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Phil is survived by his four sons; Will (Tina) Rucker of Shelby, Phil (Jennie) Rucker, Jr of Hamptonville, NC, Jim (Hope) Rucker of Shelby and Tim (Laura) Rucker of Shelby; twelve grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
