Losing a loved one, financial challenges or strained rela- tionships can put a damper on the holiday season. Some people are just overwhelmed with life, and wonder if they will ever experience joy or love again. In addition, everyone has to deal with something that is unpleas- ant at some point. How- ever, joy is much better for your health. Proverbs 17:22 (NLT) states, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength." UNSPEAKABLE JOY Sometimes, we try to put other things into our lives that don't quite satisfy us, but God is the only one that can fill those voids. He can remove sadness, bring provi- sion and heal troubled rela- tionships. I have first-hand knowledge of the Lord's goodness moving in my life, especially during those seasons where I dealt with grief and extremely difficult circumstances. I learned that nothing is impossible for the Lord, and he will help me get through it! He can flip that frown into a smile that shines Be Jolly DANYALE PATTERSON brightly with unspeakable joy. Romans 15:13 (NLT) says, "I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit." If there's an empti- ness in your soul God desires to fill you with his presence. CLOSENESS During this Christmas, ask God to show you his love and joy in a deeper way. God is a loving supernatu- ral being who chose to be among us to deliver us from darkness, cleanse us from sin, and bring us into an in- timate fellowship with him as his children. This is why Jesus was born. Matthew 1:23 says, "Behold, the vir- gin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us)." It's his desire to be close to hu- manity. Jeremiah 3:17-18 (GNT), "The Lord your God is with you; his power gives you victory. The Lord will take delight in you, and in his love he will give you new life. He will sing and be joyful over you, as joyful as people at a festival. PRAY THIS PRAYER: "Father, I delight greatly in who you are. My soul re- joices in you. For you have clothed me with the garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of his righteous- ness. Forgive me for not fo- cusing on the true meaning of Christmas. You are the reason for the season. This Christmas, reveal the path of life, and fill me with joy. May Christ make his home in my heart as I trust in him. I pray my roots will grow down into your love and keep me strong. I pray that the fruit of the Spirit will be produced in my life: love, joy, peace, patience, kind- ness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. In Jesus' name - Amen."
