I n fact, years have passed and nothing has changed in your life.What should you do? Most will give up and stop believ- ing.Our heart is crushed when our desires aren't satisfied,but when our dreams finally come to pass, there is life and joy. I believe we can learn from two women in the bible who had traumatic issues in their lives that left them devastated -but they didn't stay that way! God's Purpose Becomes My Purpose Hannah was grieved by her lack of infertility. She refused to eat and often cried. Year after year she would persis- tently pray to get pregnant. She was even taunted by a woman named Penninah, who made fun of her because of her inability to have children.I Samuel 1:10-11 (NIV) states, "In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow, saying, "Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your ser- vant's misery and remember me, and not forget your ser- vant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life...." God honored Hannah's prayer and gave her not only a son, but multiple children.The bless- ing came once Hannah yielded to God's purpose.Hannah just wanted a son, but God wanted a prophet. Sometimes, our blessing is delayed until we PERSEVERE DANYALE PATTERSON yield to God's desire for our lives.However, spending time in prayer can cause us to learn God's desire. Prayer should always be a dialogue, not a monologue.God wants to guide us into his divine purpose as we diligently seek him. Laser Sharp Focus In the next passage, (See Mark 5:25-34),we find a woman who had a chronic ill- ness for 12 long years.The law prohibited people with her particular illness to be around anyone or touch them.She was a lonely woman who had spent all her money on health inter- ventions that failed her.She was distressed, financially ruined, and very sick.She could have allowed all of the disappoint- ments and her physical weak- nessto discourage her from even trying to get to Jesus. In- stead, she pressed her way with great faith. As a result she was healed of her issue and made whole. Hebrews 10:36 (NIV) states, "You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised." PRAY THIS PRAYER: " Father, I praise you that you are not slow in keeping your prom- ise, as some understand slow- ness. Instead you are patient, intentional and strategic.Your thoughts are higher than mine and you knowhow everything works and fits together.Forgive me for doubting your word and wanting to give up. Strengthen me to persevere in faith and to never give up.Help me to keep a laser sharp focus on you.In Jesus' name I pray. Amen."
