He was passionate about the town he called home (Oakland City) and spent his professional ca- reer growing local business- es to give back to the commu- nity. He loved his family dear- ly and cherished the relation- ships he had with classmates, friends, and business partners throughout the years. He is survived by a wife, Patricia (Lockhart) Hedges; daughters, Melody (Charles) Sandefur and Julie Hedges; and five grandsons. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Russel Hedges, Sylvester Hedges, and Bethel Hedges; a sister, Goldie (Olf- ield) Hedges; daughter, Patti Lynn Haggard; and one grand- son. Quig- gins, 90, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022, at Independence Village Greenwood, in Green- wood. She was born March 16, 1932 to the late Ray and Nor- ma (Barnett) Erwin. She grew up in Winslow with Fort Branch being her final home. She retired from K-Mart after many years and attend- ed Vertical Church in Fort Branch. She enjoyed going out with her friends after church on Sundays and Friday nights for a meal. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and loved spending time with her family, especially her grand- children. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, and had a heart for everyone. She was loved and will be missed. Terri Whitehead and Deb Troutman will be in charge. LARRY ELMO MORTON Larry Elmo Morton, 79, of Petersburg, went to his heav- enly home on June 6, 2022, with his daughters by his side. He was born on July 9, 1942, to Saint Elmo and Elizabeth (Chamberlain) Morton in Pe- tersburg. He graduated from Peters- burg High School in 1961 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army as a lineman in Vietnam. A fter his service he worked as an elec- trician until he retired in 2004. He was a proud member of the Moose Lodge, American Le- gion, IBEW Local 16, and a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3587. He is survived by his daugh- ters, Cindy (Kevin) Carroll and Elizabeth (Paul) Jansen; step-son, Ron Gross; grand- children, Joseph Carroll, Ni- kolaus Jansen, Kirsten (Se- an) Barriger, Kaeden Jansen, Tyler (Sydney) Gross, Sean Gross, Alex Gross, and Cory Gross; and five great-grand- children. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Morton; his parents; brother, Bob Mor- ton; and sister, Martha Tray- lor. STEVE ALAN SIMPSON Steve Alan Simpson, 69, of Oakland City, entered into rest after a long battle with Cere- bral Palsy on Sunday, June 5, 2022, at Eastgate Manor and Rehabilitation in Washing- ton, surrounded by friends and family. He was born in Princeton, on May 26, 1953, to the late Joel R. and Martha Annabelle (Ingler) Simpson. He was married to Terry Ann Ruckman in 1993, and she preceded him to Glory on March 25, 2010. He worked as a dispatch- er for City Cab Company in Princeton, and as a greeter at the Walmart in both Boon- eville and Columbus. He also loved fishing and spending time in the country. He is survived by his half-brother, Cortland Todd Simpson, of North Carolina; aunt, Lana Weisman, of Pe- tersburg; his caregivers, Pat and Alvin Carrico, of Mont- gomery; and numerous cous- ins. Hedges, Jr., 86, of Oakland City, went to be with the Lord Saturday, June 4, 2022, at River Oaks Health Assisted Living. He was born May 8, 1936 to his parents, the late, Hovey and Nancy L (Fisher) Hedges. A fter graduating from Winslow High School in 1955, he went on to graduate from the Indiana College of Mortu- ary Science in Indianapolis. Eventually his formal edu- cation as a mortician gave way to his true passion as an entre- preneur. In 1964, he founded what is known today as Good Samaritan Nursing Home. What began as a three-story home containing 12 beds, has grown to encompass a full city block prior his retirement. During his tenure with Good Samaritan, he was ap- pointed by President Gerald Ford to represent the United
