McCANDLESS Jane Elizabeth McCandless, 89, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at her home sur- rounded by her loving family. She was born July 27, 1932, in Elko, S. C. to the late Claude and Grace Hair. She was a member of the Muren Church of God, where she was a board mem- ber of the church and Presi- dent of the WCG ( Women of the Church of God). She was loved by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who know her as Mamaw Jane. She enjoyed spending much of her time with family and friends, and loved many hobbies in- cluding quilting, gardening, IU Basketball, "Rook" play- ing cards, attending church and church activities, walk- ing with friends, and attend- ing her grandchildren's sport- ing events. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dannie) Willis, of Winslow, grandchil- dren, Max Willis of Winslow, Derek (Katelyn) Willis and great-grandchildren, Wy- att and Webb, of Winslow, Heather ( Jake) Robinette and three great grandchildren, of Petersburg, and Shaw- na Willis and three great grandchildren, along with four great-great-grandchil- dren, of Huntingburg; broth- ers, Claude ( Joyce) Hair, of Monks Corner, S. C., Vernon (Myra) Hair, of Summerville, S. C., and Jerry Hair, of Wil- liston, S. C.; sisters, Claudette McFarland, of Austin, Texas, Nell Lynn, of Winslow; and nu- merous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elwood Mc- Candless, of Oakland City; and sister, Minnie Pope, of Orangeburg, S. C. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. EST Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at the Muren Church of God, 901 IN 64, Winslow IN 47598, officiated by Pas- tor Clint Woolsey. Her final resting place will follow after- wards at Montgomery Ceme- tery, in Oakland City. Friends and family may visit 5 to 9 p.m. EST Monday, May 30, at Lamb Basham Memorial Chapel, 226 E Washington St, Oakland City, IN 47660. A visitation will be 9 until time of service, at the Muren Church of God, Jane requested that dona- tions be made to the Muren Church of God "Building Fund" in lieu of flowers. MARY LOIS POT TS Mary Lois Potts, 92, of Oak- land City, entered into rest on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Washing- ton, on April 1, 1930, to the late Wilbur and Doris (Smith) Do- ades. She was a member of Oak Grove Church in Oakland City, for over 61 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially caring for her children by never miss- ing a sporting event they par- ticipated in. She also enjoyed caring for her grandchildren. She enjoyed doing crafts and craft sales, painting, sewing and crocheting, gardening, quilting, cooking and baking bread. In addition to her church activities, she was a member of the Oak Grove Missionary Women's Society, a Vacation Bible School crafts teacher, a member of the Gibson Coun- ty Art Guild, and Open Class Exhibitor at the Gibson Coun- ty Fair. She is survived by her chil- dren, Douglas W. (Donna) Potts, Edwin (Lucy) Potts, Michael (Melanie) Potts, and Monica (Michael) Atkins (Michael); sisters, Delores Rhodes and Billie (Roger) Furnish; 18 -grandchildren; 22-great-grandchildren; sev- eral nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winton Potts, whom she married on Sept. 10, 1949, and was mar- ried 56 years until his passing in 2006; and son, Jerry Dean Potts. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. CST Sunday, May 29, 2022, at Lamb-Basham Memo- rial Chapel, in Oakland City, with Pastor Michael Atkins of- ficiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, in Wash- ington. Visitation was from 9 a.m. until time of service, at the Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Oak Grove Church. She was born December 9, 1965 to Charles and Betty ( Watson) Chanley, in Coryd- on. She is survived by her hus- band, Bob Steward; sons, Timothy Chanley and Der- ic Steward; grandchildren, Aydin, Lucas, Trinity, and So- phie Steward; brothers, David and James Chanley; and sis- ters, Vickie McAllister, Pat- ty Chanley, Tammy Sheckels, and Robin Allen. She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Eric Wayne Steward; and brother, Charles Chanley Jr. There are no services scheduled for Melody at this time. CHARLES "CHUCK" LAWRENCE Charles "Chuck" Wayne Lawrence, 77, of Princeton, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2022, at his home peace- fully surrounded by his lov- ing family. Chuck was born in Birds- eye, on March 7, 1945 to the late Ivan and Lucille Law- rence. He spent most of his work- ing life driving a truck and hauling coal. He enjoyed his work greatly and took great pride in it. He also had a great passion for music, especially the guitar. He played with his band "Country Fever" for sever- al decades. His love for mu- sic was so apparent that his co-workers often referred to him as the "guitar man." Mu- sic also led him to the love of his life, Shelba. She loved lis- tening to him play and both shared a passion for music. K ATHY BEZY Kathy Bezy, 69, passed away on May 23, 2022, at her home in Otwell. She was born on Febru- ary 25, 1953, to Kenneth and Edith (Hedrick) Trayler, in Washington. She is survived by son, Tracy Catt; brother, Brent Trayler; sister, Denise (Pat) Strange; and brother-in-law, David Catt. She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Dar- rell Hedrick, Georgia Catt, Ju- dy Wolven, Michael, Dale and Deroy Lynn Trayler. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at O.D. Harris Funer- al Home, in Petersburg, with Pastor Scott Hedrick officiat- ing. Burial will be at Iva Cem- etery. "BILL" MILEY Roscoe William "Bill" Mi- ley, 73, of Milltown, died on May 27, 2022, at his residence. Bill was born on October 5, 1948, in Petersburg, to the late Regis Roscoe and Dolores M. (Copinski) Miley. He was a former mechanic for coal mines and attended Faith Baptist Church in Salem. He is survived by his wife, Vicki S. Miley; a son, Brent A. Miley; step-son, Darrin L. Jenkins; daughters, Stacy L. Zimmerman and Lisa A. Hens- ley; a step-daughter, Mandy S. Bean; brother, Thomas L. Miley; several grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Bill Cam- plin; and brothers, Mike and David Miley. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 30, 2022, at the Brown Funeral Home, in Milltown, Bro. Chris Brown officiated the service.. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery near Depauw, at a later date. Visitation was from 10 a.m. until time of the service, at the funeral home. Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, is entrusted with his arrangements. Yo Ho Ho - Winslow students enjoy Pirate Party Recently, students at Winslow Elementary en- joyed a Pirate End of the Year Party, complete with a Pirate visitor. Jeff Aydelott, came to the school dressed in full pirate attire, to participate in the capturing of teachers. Students had to earn gems in order to get their teachers back from the pirate who was holding them.
