D-2 Wednesday, June 1, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Church Note Deadline 10 a.m. Tuesday Lutheran Methodist Catholic Independent Church of Christ BRENTON CHAPEL CHURCH OF CHRIST 1194 E. CR 400 N. (Prides Creek Road) Petersburg Sunday morning Bible classes 10 a.m.; morning worship 10:30 a.m. and evening worship at 6 p.m. Tony Sims, Elder Ross Williams, Elder FIRST CHRIS- TIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 941-730-6324 We listen to or read the news regarding what's going on in our world today and we are saddened, disappointed, fearful and frustrated. How is it possible that our world could be so evil? How is it that the sanctity of life means so little to so many? We are still in shock after last week's mass- murder trag- edy. How can this happen we ask? And…it's not just about lack of security in schools or airports or malls. It's much deeper than that. Why should we even need security in these and other public places? I guess, on the one hand, it should not surprise us that our world is becoming more and more evil. The absence of and restricting of moral values continues to increase. Most of us have witnessed it with our very own eyes. It started be- fore us and will continue after us. Evil is growing. Part of the reason evil is growing is because of the ab- sence of a moral grounding. We have lost our moral com- pass. Evil, simply defined is the absence of good. At one time, we were clear on what was right and wrong. Yes, there were extremists, but there was still a sense of com- mon good through much of the world, and especially in the USA. We continue to drift fur- ther and further from God, His teachings and the values He established for us. God estab- lished moral values because He knows what's best for us. Rejecting those values means we're on our own, and look at what we have. I pray that somehow and in some way, we can return to a morality that makes us better WINSLOW CHRISTIAN CHURCH Corner of Lafayette and Walnut Pastor 812-753-3539 Sunday school 9:30 a.m.; morning worship 10 :30 a.m. Everyone is welcome to our services. Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this tem- ple made with human hands and in three days will build an- other, not made with hands.'" Yet even then their testimony did not agree. Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you? " But Je- sus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Bless- ed One? " "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses? " he asked. "You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think? " They all condemned him as worthy of death. (Mark 14:57-64). Joe Henson, Pastor Matt Haycraft, Reporter JESUS CHRIST OUR FIRM FOUNDATION 1415 N. This world is not the way God meant it to be; it is in the grip of " spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms" ( Ephe- sians 6:12). "In light of that truth, we must not blame God for ev- erything that happens in our life, especially the bad things. Instead, we need to remember that God has already entered into the battle against evil- - - - and someday His victory will be complete. In his death and resurrection, Jesus Christ confronted Satan—and won. That is our hope—and that is our comfort. "In this world you will have trouble. But take heart. I have over come the world. Yet not I but Through Christ in Me by Farren, Thompson and Robinson What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer, there is no more for heaven now to give, He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom, my steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace. To this I hold, my hope is on- ly Jesus, for my life is wholly bound to His, oh how strange and divine, I can sing, "All is mine", yet not I, but through Christ in me. The night is dark but I am not forsaken, for by my side, the Saviour He will stay, I la- bour on in weakness and re- joicing, for in my need, His power is displayed. To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me, through the deepest val- ley He will lead, oh the night has been won, and I shall over- come, yet not I, but through Christ in me. No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven, the future sure, the price it has been paid, for Je- sus bled and suffered for my pardon, and He was raised to overthrow the grave. To this I hold, my sin has been defeated, Jesus now and ever is my plea, oh the chains are released, I can sing, "I am free", yet not I, but through Christ in me. With every breath I long to follow Jesus, for He has said that He will bring me home, and day by day I know He will renew me until I stand with joy before the throne. To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus, all the glory ever- more to Him, when the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat, yet not I, but through Christ in me. Serving others was an im- portant part of Jesus' ministry. When He healed the sick and fed the hungry, many were in- troduced to God's goodness and love. By caring for our communities, we're follow- ing His model of discipleship. God's wisdom reminds us that when we demonstrate God's love through our actions, "oth- ers will praise God (v. 13). Ser- vice isn't about self-gratifica- tion, but about showing oth- ers the extent of God's love and the miraculous ways He works through those who are called by His name.
