The school is hoping to raise $1,500 for new books for the library. It is the only fundraiser used to buy new books for the school. Scholastic Book Fair back after COVID By Sherri Sebella Students and teachers at Petersburg Elementary were excited to see the Scholastic Book Fair return to the ele- mentary school after its ab- sence since the Fall of 2019, due to COVID. "This is the only fundrais- er used to buy new books for the library, and we are super excited to have it back," Micki Aaserud, Librarian for Peters- burg Elementary, said. "The kids love it. We hope to raise $1,500 for new books with this book fair. We usually have it during Grandparent's Day, but were unable to do so this year. Next year we will re- turn to having it on Grandpar- ent's Day in the Spring. The Scholastic Book Fair at Petersburg Elementary will take place through Wednes- day, April 27. Jasper man arrested after eluding troopers in chase A Jasper man was arrested after eluding po- lice, following a chase through Pike and Du- bois counties. State Trooper CJ Boeckman spotted a mo- torcycle rider travelling at a high rate of speed on CR300 North near Jasper. Boeckman pur- sued the rider into Pike County, but stopped when he deemed the pursuit too dangerous. However, a motorist stopped Boeckman and identified the rider as Sterling Kiefer, 20, of Jasper. Police located Kiefer and his motorcy- cle at Kiefer's residence. Kiefer was arrested and charged with resist- ing law enforcement, a Level 6 felony and ag- gressive driving, a Class A misdemeanor. He was taken to Pike County Jail and held on bond. State Trooper Dustin Stein assisted Boeck- man in the arrest. Treasurer's office hours extended This spring tax season, the Treasurer's of- fice will be open Saturday, April 30 and May 5 from 8 am to noon. It will also be open from 8 am to 5 pm on May 6, May 9 and May 10. The Property Tax drop box is also available, checked twice dai- ly. Special school board meeting Thursday Pike County School Board will have a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28 in the Corporation Office at 211S 12th St., Petersburg.
