Poplar Street, Petersburg Many people throughout the world are ex- periencing "FUD." FUD is fear, uncertainty, and doubts (some people could be in despair more than doubts). I saw this term in a blog I read the other day. How relevant, I thought, to describe the situation we are in today. There is hardly a facet of our existence that isn't pro- ducing FUD. There is a long list of FUD examples, such as COVID, Russia and Ukrainian war, infla- tion, crime, cancel culture, white-suprema- cy, woke school boards, woke government, climate change, nuclear war, looming ener- gy crisis, looming food crisis, cancer, border crisis, BLM, Disney going woke, President Biden's next speech, vice-president Harris' next outing, China invading Taiwan, North Ko- rea's nukes, Trump running for president, Hil- lary running for president, Iran getting nukes, new cold war, rise in crime, rise in murders, carjackings, drug overdoses, aliens, the Kar- dashians are in court, and your favorite T V show is being canceled. We can thank Adam in the garden of Eden for fear (and sin). A fter Adam sinned, some- thing had changed. He heard God's voice, so he went and hid himself. When God asked him what was wrong, Adam said, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was na- ked, and I hid myself." When faced with fear, humans instinctively want to run away. It is called the flight or fight reaction. The question to ask is, what are people afraid of? John tells us in his gospel the execution of Jesus scared the disciples to death. Being the chief disciples of Jesus, they figured they were Hello to everyone who is reading this. It has been another week of topsy turvey tem- peratures. Some of what we need to do hasn't gotten accomplished yet. Last year it took me about a month to get to where my work was get- ting done on a kind of normal cycle. I remem- ber last year it went from unpredidtable to ex- tremely warm. So we might want to bottle up some of this cooler weather for this summer. The folks in Ukraine are yet determined not to give in to the Russians. This war makes lit- tle sense over what has caused the Russian ar- my to be so cruel and deadly other than they are just plain mean and thoughtless. There is a place of punishment for those who choose to be this cruel and mean. I'm glad I don't have to judge their cowardly acts because I would not be very understanding. There is a possibility that the Russian cit- izens are against this terrible conflict. They might have a desire to be reasonable citizens and neighbors of the world. This conflict has hurt us all with the loss of lives and property for the Ukrainian people as well as delivering a terrible blow to our world's economy. If Rus- sia wins, they will have lost because the rest of the world will never forget this war. It will be a scar on their nation. If they lose this con- flict they will have lost the world's respect as a strong nation. It is a no win situation for the country of Russia. In his song entitled "Unanswered Prayers," country singer Garth Brooks refers to God as "the Man upstairs." Similar phrases refer- ring to Almighty God include: the Big Man, my Co-pilot, my Homeboy, my Golf-buddy, or sim- ply JC. The user may not intend it this way, but such references are highly disrespectful, and reveal a lack of understanding about who and what our Great High God really is. When the Apostle John encountered the Lord Jesus Christ, who was instructing him to write what would be revealed to him, he said, "I fell at his feet as dead" (Revelation 1:17). Notice there was nothing casual in John's re- sponse. Why? When the Lord Jesus Christ spoke, it was with "a great voice, as of a trum- pet" (vs. 10). "His eyes were as a flame of fire" (vs. 14), and "His countenance was as the sun" (vs. 16). This brief picture, and the reaction of a mere man in the presence of God, is consistent with the rest of Scripture. Isaiah says he saw "the Lord…high and lifted up" with dynamic angel- ic hosts attending Him crying, "Holy, holy, ho- ly, is the Lord of Hosts" (Isaiah 6:1-3). Isaiah's response was not casual or irreverent. He said, "Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co.
