However, no matter what age, all of us need to feed our spirit with spiritual food that will strengthen and increase our faith. God expects us to continue to grow in our walk with him and not stay babies or immature in our understanding and actions. Hebrews 5:12 & 14 (NLT) states, "You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God's word. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through train- ing have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong." Sometimes we miss out on opportunities to grow, because we become too busy to find out what the Lord has to say to us through his Holy Word - the Bible. There is a little song I like to teach children. It says: "If you read your bible and you pray everyday, You will grow, grow, grow. If you don't read your bible and you don't ever pray You will shrink, shrink, shrink!" The Apostles' Example Although delving into the bible nourishes our spirit, God wants us to also digest it by applying it to our lives. Until we actually put to practice the biblical truths and prin- ciples, with the help of the Holy Spirit, we are not going to move forward in our walk with God. I think one of the reasons the disciples were able to become so spiritually mature quickly was because they were fully committed. Although they were carnal and Jesus had to continually correct them, they still were willing to learn his ways, lay aside their agendas and follow Christ wholeheartedly. They grew in leaps and bounds in their relationship with the Lord, and their faith greatly increased. Also, they were able to experience his love, power, and purpose for their lives, unlike many who turned from Jesus because they were offended by his message. When he asked his dis- ciples if they would leave him too, Peter replied, "Master, to whom would we go? You have the words of real life, eternal life." (John 6:68 MSG) In other words, Peter was saying, "We are not going to miss out, Lord. We know who you are and what you have for our lives." PRAY THIS PRAYER: " Lord, I come to you with an open heart, a listening ear, and uplifted hands to you my God. Forgive me for not spending time with you and basking in your presence. I know I have missed out on words of guidance, encourage- ment, and wisdom by not making you a priority. Please help me to grow in the grace and knowledge of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory, honor, majesty, splendor, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen." GROW DANYALE PATTERSON These few simple tips can help you put together the perfect party to revel in all things green – and tasty. • Decorate with purpose. Everyone knows that green is the color of the day, but go one step further by incorporating it into different items. Banners and streamers work fi ne, but setting out green candles or even adorning your light fi xtures with green bulbs can help you take an extra step forward. • Create active fun. Instead of limiting your guests to dining and conversation, plan some simple activities to help the fun fl ow. Games like a "treasure hunt" for gold coins, limerick-writing competitions or even just turning up Irish-themed music can help get the party started. • Eat festively. Turn your party's food and drinks into true Irish dining with some delicious recipes like this American Irish Stew, which includes beef, onion, car- rots and potatoes for a tasty cultural meal to fi ll all of your hungry guests.
