And I plan on eating a big dinner, playing some cards and having fun with the family. CORI MENNONA We are driving to spend time with the in-laws. (Part 2 of "Don't be a Turkey" Series) How often do we crave things that aren't good for us? We eat "foods" that will add on those extra pounds but don't have any nutritional value. We hang out with people that are abusive and draining and don't value us. We immerse ourselves with information that causes us to be fearful, worried, or nega- The Turkey Vulture DANYALE PATTERSON tive, but does not offer any positive solu- tions. We fill ourselves up with the insig- nifcant, while our spirit is left dry and empty, long- ing for a connection with our Heavenly Father. This behavior reminds me of the turkey vulture who are carrion animals, meaning they enjoy eating dead or de- caying things. The Struggle is Real Why are we like this? Why do we feed our spirit, soul, and body with harmful, toxic things? Romans 7:21- 23 (MSG) gives a great ex- planation of the problem of the sinful nature. It states, «It happens so regularly that it's predictable. The moment I decide to do good, sin is there to trip me up. I truly delight in God's commands, but it's pretty obvious that not all of me joins in that delight. Parts of me covertly rebel, and just when I least expect it, they take charge.» Victory is Yours Most of us really don't want others to know how much we struggle with certain issues in our mind, emotions, body, relationships, etc. Some have secret problems that even family members don't know about. However, God knows and sees it all and still loves you unconditionally. However, he doesn't want you to stay where you are, but desires to transform and empower you to live a victorious life through Jesus Christ! Romans 7:24- 25 (MSG) states, "I've tried everything, and nothing helps. I'm at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do any- thing for me? Isn't that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradic- tions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally dif- ferent." If we yield to the Lord and allow him to live through us by following scripture and the Holy Spirit, we will begin to experience freedom and success in areas that have de- feated us. Galatians 2:20 (NLT) states, "My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So, I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." " P R A Y T H I S PRAYER: "Father I adore you. You alone are worthy of my praise and worship. I give you thanks, because of your righteousness. I will sing the praises of your name oh Most High God. Thank you for being good to me, even when I am not good. Forgive me for meditat- ing on junk or things that can cause me to stumble in my walk with you. Lead and guide me as I seek to grow in my relation- ship with you. Strengthen me to resist what my flesh craves when it displeases you. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen."
