Beginning or around Mon- day, July 19, contractors will close U.S. 231, from State Road 64 to 10th Street in Huntingburg. Workers will be replacing a box culvert, in- stalling new inlets and storm water pipes to work in con- junction with the existing drainage infrastructure just south of the railroad tracks at this location. Work at this location is expected to take until the end of July, depending upon weather conditions. During the project, the road will be completely closed around the clock. Gas line break causes evacuation Workers from the Highway 61 project look down at a gas line that was punc- tured Thursday afternoon in Petersburg. Petersburg Police Chief Kyle Mills said they put dirt on the line to contain the gas, but you could still smell gas in the area. He said they decided out of caution to evacuate apartments at the cor- ner of Highway 61 and Poplar St. to the north, because the wind was blowing that direction. Centerpoint Energy was able to make repairs to the line with- out incident.
