On this senior trip the students go to Los Angeles, California to stay three days and two nights at a hotel in rooms offive to six. During the day the seniors go to many exciting places like Disneyland and California Adventure. The cost is about 500 dollars to participate. This year 127 seniors went on the trip. One of these seniors was Evan Sinclair. Sinclair said, "The money was worth it because we got one last hoorah as the class of 2013." Although most of the students had a great time and thought the money was worth it, there were some things that they thought could have been better. Sinclair thought, "It would have been nice if we could have gotten something to make it easier for us to go in and out of the two amusement parks." Courtny Abbassi, another senior, said, "I would have liked more time to have been spent in Disneyland and California Adventures." Myke Nichols, senior, wishes he could go back and do something differently. Nichols explained, "I wish I would have brought swim trunks with me for the beach because I had to buy a pair while I was there." After all the seniors got back from their fun vacation with their friends they all had a favorite part. Abbassi said, "My favorite part was Cars land." Nichols said, "My favorite part was California Adventures." The Red Bluff High School senior trip is an annual event that is made to bring lots of enjoyment and final memories to the graduating class. It is also made to celebrate all of the accomplishments the students have made over the past years. Scholarships Owen Ritter Staff Writer Recently the seniors have participated in the annual senior awards program to gain funding for further schooling. This event was held May 21 in the PAC at 6:30. Many eager seniors gathered for this event to find out what common scholarships they would be rewarded. The seniors received countless scholarships from different groups. With many local companies giving helpful money out to aspiring high school seniors to help them achieve their dreams. "This senior class received over 1 million dollars in scholarships this year," said Mrs. Gambetta, Red Bluff High counselor. All this money is important to many seniors so they can fulfill destinies and complete the educational journey that is started in high school. Many different groups, corporations, and individuals give out scholarships. These include elementary schools, teacher and administration groups, community service committee, families that want to give out some sort of a memorial scholarship, and so many others who deserve our respect. Different organizations or individuals have applications posted so seniors can apply themselves for scholarships if they need the money. Senior Lily Brose is thankful for her qualification of scholarships from US Naval, ACSA, and Dairyville Community Club. She will further her education at the US Naval academy. Her decision on attending the US Naval academy is based on the experience and knowledge she will gain from attending the academy. "It will be a once in a lifetime experience, a once in a lifetime knowledge of leadership," said Brose. She is very determined and the 327,250 dollars she received from her combination of scholarships will aid her to victory. Scholarships motivate students to achieve all they can and all they want to. Spartan Health Mark Criss Staff Writer Mrs. Miller(Substitute Teacher) "I'm totally booked for the summer. I have baketball camp and my sister is getting married." Mr. Hein (Teacher) "I am going on my house boat, getting ready for football, and hanging with my wife and kids." Sound Off/Ceighlee Fennel and Tymberlyn Bealer May 31, 2013 Health is a major issue in today's society, will I get fat? Should I exercise? What is best to do for exercise? All of those are extremely common and well thought questions. As for the summer, being healthy becomes an even tougher task to accomplish. Staying healthy however isn't hard at all, it just takes a little bit of drive and the know how when you exercise. You'll also be needing to eat a well balanced serving of meals each day even though the summer may tempt you with free rain, if staying healthy is a concern you'll have to be strong and resist. National blood heart and lung institution suggests that trying out the Whoa, slow and go chart might be a perfect choice to get started. Whoa stands for foods that shouldn't be normally eaten, most likely something high in fat content or calories. Slow stands for foods that should be eaten in moderation, knowing your limits with food will take you really far. These foods might be raisins corn bread or even peanut butter. Go foods are great for eating, "go foods are good for you; eat them just about any time", is what the national blood heart and lung association says about go food. This would be food such as, fresh vegetables (no butter), fat free milk or whole fruit. If eating healthy isn't enough for you, exercise is also good try going for a jog or run every day. Running gets the heart rate up and blood pumping properly. It also builds cardio and strong legs."Don't clench your fists in a white-knuckle grip. Instead, run with a cupped hand, thumbs resting on the fingers, as if you were protecting an egg in each palm." A passage from Runner's World editors that suggests that even know clenching those fists is tempting resist it, remember staying healthy takes drive so use it and fight back at the bad habits this summer, keep your selves hydrated and over all have fun. Bottom Picture: While in Hollywood the seniors went to Madame Tussauds Wax Museum Summer vacation allows many travel oppurtunities Mark Criss Staff Writer  For This summer many of Red Bluff High School' s Spartans have many great summer plans in mind.  There are a great multitude of choices to pick from this summer. If you're thinking about staying fit try some exercise. Travis Gorden, freshman, plans to do exactly that this summer. "I'm going to be a life guard and probably go hunting," said Gorden.   Not only does the life guard job keep you fit but, it also pays as well. You could also simply go for a jog or try a summer sport. Football is starting and Red Bluff high would love new players. If staying fit isn't your main goal but you would still like to do something semi active try to convince your parents to go on a summer trip. Mrs. Tomasetti, math teacher, is planning on going camping up at Lake Elmore while having some quality hang out time with her kids. Going on trips allows people to explore the world and take in new sights to enjoy that will most likely never be forgotten. If you just cannot afford to travel then try having fun closer to home. You don't have to travel or get lots of exercise to have fun you can " I'm just going to hang out with family and friends..." -Tessa Burch just hang with friends or go to the pool and relax. "I'm just going to hang out with family and friends and I usually swim," said Tessa Burch, freshman.   It's good to take some time out of your life to be with your family or go off with your friends, which is what summer is perfect for. There are some that plan on getting a summer job while socializing as well. "I plan on courting the ladies," said Tanner Durfee, freshman. He also said that he plans on doing some self improvement and pulling in some money. In the end though we all know that some extra sleep will be greatly appreciated by everyone. Whether it's an hour or five hours it's still a nice thing to have. Before you do anything this summer though look around and possibly see what you can do instead of what you want to do. Look around your community and see what's wrong and what you can fix and if you believe it is worth fixing just do it. Volunteer work is a great way to become involved and it looks great on college apps. If you don't see anything then go out and explore the world or hang with friends and enjoy the beauty of summer. Host an International Student! We are seeking volunteer families to host a student for 1 or 2 semesters. Our students come from 25 different countries. Host families have the opportunity to review the applications and select the student they want to welcome into their home. Students have medical insurance and spending money. Host families provide room and board, some transportation, and share their American and family traditions.
