A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Gertrude Hughes White and Rush and Florence White. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lehman Stroup, her son, Dennis Stroup, and by two great- grandchildren, Zoe Bachman and Seth Van Dyke. Mrs. Stroup is sur- vived by her daughters: Belinda & Steve Lankford of Kernersville, NC, Jane & Raymond Galloway of Kings Mountain, Debbie & Roy Putnam of Kings Mountain; daughter-in-law, Doris Stroup of Kings Mountain; a brother, Henry White; a sis- ter, Barbara & Wayne Smiley of Kings Mountain; and fif- teen grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at 3:00 pm in the cha- pel of Cecil M Burton Funeral Home and Crematory with Rev. Jody Griffin & Rev. Jim Brackett officiating. PHILLIP ANTHONY FARMER Phillip Anthony Farmer, 64, of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peace- fully on October 22, 2020 at his home. He was born in Georgia, son of the late Thomas Verlin Farmer. Survivors: wife of seven years, Lisa Dellinger Farmer, of the home; children: Amanda Roberson, Georgia, Alexandria Farmer, North Carolina, Stafford Farmer, North Carolina, and Koryssa Beebe of South Carolina; mother: Mildred Jeanette Cape Suggs of Georgia; sib- lings: Alan Farmer and wife Pat and Valerie Summer and husband John, all of Georgia. RAYMOND PATTERSON Raymond Patterson, age 80, of West Main Street, Forest City, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Willow Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center. Raymond was born October 30, 1939 in Rutherford County to the late Hugh Patterson and Francis Fowler Patterson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Cynthia Patterson and a second wife, Mary Dobbins Patterson and by his brother, Ernest Patterson. Those left to cherish his memory include two daughters, Cindy Hargett of Ellenboro and Daphne Layton of Mooresboro; six grandchildren, David Lane II (June) of Ellenboro, Raymond Lane (Ashely) of Rutherfordton, Judy Lane of Mooresboro, Joseph Ware of Asheville, Beth Ware of Gilkey, Rebecca Ware of Columbia, SC; eight great- grandchildren; five sisters, Shirley Leverette, Betty Crowder, Carolyn Yarsboro, Nellie Hubert, Margaret Mode; and a brother, Howard Patterson. The funeral service was held at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at Harrelson Funeral Chapel with Reverend Paul Lane offi- ciating. Interment followed in the Spindale City Cemetery. Born March 23, 1935 in Cleveland County, Edith was the daughter of the late Joe C. Hardin and Naomi Bowen Hardin and was preceded in death by her son, Billy Ray "Pete" Stroup, a grandson, Christopher Adam Stroup, four brothers, and three sis- ters. The Earl Scruggs Center is proud to announce the 11th annual Rhythm and Roots Race, presented by Plaster Family Dentistry. In light of the global pandemic, orga- nizers are pleased to keep the tradition of the Rhythm and Roots Race alive through a virtual event October 31 – November 14. In addition, the event has expanded to in- clude 10 and 20 mile cycling options along with the tradi- tional 5K/10K run/walk. Athletes may participate in this race from any location on a course of their choos- ing and record results on the event website between Oc- tober 31 and November 14. This year's event offers great flexibility for runners and cyclists of every level—sim- ply choose your own starting line, whether it is a treadmill, a country road, or neighbor- hood street. Race participants may also choose to receive a race t- shirt and unique participation medal, both great race sou- venirs. Earl Scruggs Center and Plaster Family Dentistry announce 11th Annual Rhythm and Roots Virtual Race Oct. 31 – Nov. 14 BBQ SLAW Tom Tindall 2 med. cabbage heads 20 oz. bottle ketchup 1 cup vinegar 1 tsp. Texas Pete ½ tsp. pepper 1 T. salt 1 cup sugar, white or brown Cut cabbage fine. Mix all in- gredients together. Refrigerate overnight. Will keep 6 months or more. EASY BAKED BEANS Margaret McGinnis 16 oz. pork and beans 1 small onion, chopped 1 green pepper, chopped 1 tsp. prepared mustard 1 t. chili powder 3-4 T. molasses Ketchup or tomato sauce to taste 2 slices bacon Combine all ingredients ex- cept bacon. Place in greased 2 quart casserole and lay bacon slices on top. Bake uncovered at 360 degrees 30-40 minutes or until mixture has thickened and bacon thoroughly cooked. CHILI Lori Cruise 2 lbs. hamburger, cooked and drained 1 can Rotel 1 can petite diced tomatoes 1 cup half and half 1 lb. Velveeta cheese, cut into chunks 2 (16 oz.) cans chili beans Cook and drain meat. Add Rotel, tomatoes, half and half, and cheese; cook on low heat. Stir constantly until cheese is melted. Add chili beans and heat. Ready to eat. May be served over rice. A chopped onion may be added as meat is browned, if desired. CUBE STEAK Sandra Murphrey 4 pieces cube steak Flour Meat tenderizer Oil 1 can Golden mushroom soup Flour and use meat tenderizer on steak. Fry in oil over me- dium heat for 5 minutes until brown and turn to brown other side. Place I n 6x10 inch bak- ing dish. Spoon undiluted soup on top of steak. Fill can 2/3 full of water, pour into side of baking dish. Do not wash off any of thick soup from top of meat/ Bake at 350 degrees for one hour. Turn off, leave in oven 1 more hour. If any liq- uid remains in baking dish, lift out meat onto serving plate and serve. Serve over rice. Very good next day. (Ed. The event is hosted by the Legion Rid- ers. All veterans are invited to this free breakfast the first Saturday of every month.
