Helen graduated from Camp High School and attended Cleveland Community College. She retired after 25 years from Fasco Industries. She was a faithful member of New Ellis Chapel Baptist Church where she began her religious train- ing at a very young age. She attended her church regu- larly where she sang on the Senior Choir until sickness prevented her from attend- ing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Javes Whiteside; her brothers, Silas Mask, Gaither Mask, Robert Mask and Bo Lathers; sis- ters, Odessa Mask Littlejohn and Martha Ann Mask and children, Larry Whiteside, Bonita Whiteside and Shirley Whiteside Howard. She leaves to cherish fun and loving memories to her daughter, Sandy Whiteside Borders (John); sons, Javes Whiteside and Benard Whiteside; brothers, James Mask, David Mask (Sarah), Charles Mask (Ada) and Bobby Wells; eight grand- children, three of which were reared in the home, Davon Whiteside, Javes Whiteside, III and Marquise Williams; eleven great-grandchildren; her god-daughter, Norma Patterson; special niece, Tomeka Mask; special neph- ew, Rodney Strong; special friends, Lucille Chapman, Rita Chapman, Nancy Kilgore and Iva Wilson and a host of other relatives and friends. A Homegoing Celebration was held on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church from 2:30 PM until 3:00 PM. She was placed in the church at 12:30 PM to begin viewing. Burial took place at the church cemetery. The family will met at the home of her daughter, Sandy Borders, 1221 Donna Drive, Shelby. Condolences can be expressed online at www.enloemortuary.com. Enloe Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements. CALVIN PADGETT Calvin Padgett, age 91, of Mooresboro, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home in Shelby. Calvin was born March 12, 1929 in Rutherford County to the late Walter Padgett and Cordie Goforth Padgett. He served in the U.S. Army during the post-World War II era. Calvin worked many years as a mechanic for Murphy Cadillac and Pontiac in Spartanburg and as a self- of Rock Hill, SC, Pansy Davidson (Eddie) of Shelby, NC, and Adrienne Boykins (Ervin)of Shelby, NC. She is also survived by one brother, Bobby Joe Smith (Mary) of Lincolnton, NC, and one sister Shelby, NC; a God-sister, Ms. Flonnie Davis of Edgemoore, SC; 3 special children reared in the home, Kim Jefferies, Brenda Petty and Crystal Wilson; 17 grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren. The service for Ms. Baxter was private. Burial was at Fairview A.M.E. Zion Church Cemetery. KEITH VINSON Mr. Edwin Keith Vinson, 54, of 125 Falls St. Lawndale, NC passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2020 Atrium Health Cleveland. He was born in Cleveland County, NC on September 20, 1965 and was the son of Robert Vinson, Jr. and Patricia Ann Gidney Vinson. A loving husband, father, son, brother, friend died peace- fully. Keith is survived by his loving wife, Linda Brewton of 23 years; their sons, Darien (Oriana); Keith, Jr. (Megan) and Kendrick and grandson, Josiah. He is also survived by his beloved mother, Patricia Gidney Vinson; dad, Robert T. Vinson, Jr.; his devoted sib- lings, Cedric (Margie), Robin, Jamaica, Login, Nicholas, Hanna and London; his mother- in-law, Selma Brewton; father- in-law, Raymond Brewton and mother at heart, Mary Hector. Also there are loved ones that although their physical body is not present, their spirt lived through Keith and we acknowl- edge them; his father, Floyd Hector; his grandmother, Brite Gidney; his grandparents, John and Josie Hector, Robert T. Sr. and Samie Lou Vinson and his best friend for life, Robert L. Vinson, Jr. A private funeral service for Mr. Vinson was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at S.T. She RUBY COOK WILLIS Ruby Cook Willis, age 74, of Old Stubbs Road, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born February 23, 1946, in Nebo, NC to the late John Cook and the late Mary Ella Kate Whisnant Cook Reynolds. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Willis; brother, Earl Cook; daughter, Sheila Willis. She is survived by her daughter, Rita Willis Lovelace, and husband Larry of Cherryville; sons, Bobby Willis, Jr. and wife Donna, and Johnny Shane Willis, all of Cherryville; sis- ter, Mary Heath of Lawndale; 9 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. A private Graveside Service, officiated by Rev. Josh Lovelace, was held at Knob Creek United Methodist Church, Belwood. EARLENE SMITH BAXTER Ms. Earlene Smith Baxter, 80, of Shelby, NC passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Atrium Health- Cleveland in Shelby. She was born on April 2, 1940 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Hezekiah Smith and Phebbie Lockhart Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Ernest Lee Baxter, who affection- ately called her "Bae-Bae"; one son, Thomas Lamar Smith of Shelby, NC; her brothers, Ulysses Smith of Shelby, NC, Odis C. Smith of Asheville, NC, Hezekiah Smith, Jr. of Blacksburg, SC, John Lee Smith, Shelby, NC, and R. L. Smith of Lincolnton, NC; sisters, Lowren Smith, Rose Lee Smith Woods, Pansy Lee Smith and Lucile Smith, all of Shelby, NC. Patty)of Shelby, NC, Zilla Parks (Ricky)of Shelby, NC, Ernest Baxter (Angela) Continued From Page 15 SS HOWELL Mr. SS Howell, 85, of 1940 Cherryville Road in Cherryville, NC passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at Carolina Care Center in Cherryville. He was born in Cleveland County, NC on January 21, 1935 to the late Rev. Fred L. Howell and Gertrude Roberts Howell. A native of Cleveland County, he worked as a cook on Southern Coastal and Seaboard trains while attend- ing JC Smith University. He earned his Master's in Engineering at Johnson C. Smith University. He retired from Lithium Corporation in 1998 as a Laboratory Chemist. He served in the Army for 10 years receiving a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was the Legend Master wash pot fish fryer which was one of his favorite hobbies along with going to Nascar races. Richard Petty #43 was his favorite race car driver. He loved listening to employed auto mechanic for several years. He attended the Jehovah Witness Church and enjoyed going to flea markets and "piddling" in his workshop. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Padgett; son, Willie Padgett and a sister, Beatrice Lavender. Those left to cherish his memory include two daugh- ters, Cynthia Padgett of Spartanburg and Tammy Waters (Stanley) of Glendale, SC; son, Robert Padgett of Spartanburg; two brothers, Hubert Padgett (Frances) of Shelby and Norman Padgett (Freda) of Ellenboro; two sisters, Eloise Powell of Ellenboro and Dianne Hewitt of Forest City. He is also sur- vived by five grandchildren, Tina Greene (John), Terina Padgett (James), Justin Padgett (Lindsey), James Padgett, Harley Padgett and nine great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jacob, Paizley, Riley, Peyton, Josh, Belle, Austin and Makenzie. In honor of Mr. Padgett's wishes, no formal services will be conducted. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been entrusted with arrange- ments. Most of all, he was a family man to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. SS was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church since a youth where he joined under the leadership of his father, the late Rev. Fred L. Howell. As a member, he served on the deacon board for many years. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Vernice C. Howell; two daughters, Marcia McKissick (the late Keith McKissick) of Waco, NC, Donna H. Charles (Donald) of Gastonia, NC; two sons that preceded him in death, Christopher Samuel Columbus Howell and James Larry Howell, Sr.; six grand- children, Sharika Howell (Travalis), Shantineya Howell, Ryan Howell (Candra), James Larry Howell, Jr., Darius Howell (Kelly), Niajah Clark; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends. The funeral service for Mr. Howel was private. A recep- tion of friends was held on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, NC. from 2:00 PM until 2:30 PM.
