The decision was reached at a called meeting of the fair board on June 30. The board considered information from other fairs in the region along with measures the board believed necessary to produce a safe fair. The board issued a statement that expressed that the aim of the Cleveland County Fair is to provide fun, entertainment and education for the whole family in a safe and open environment. The restrictions that would be necessary to ensure safety for the fair patrons, vendors and fair personnel would make it ex- tremely diffi cult, if not impossible, to provide a fair that would be enjoyable for everyone. While we truly regret having to can- cel the fair for this year, we have already begun preparations for the 2021 Cleveland County Fair and expect it to be the best fair in its 97 year history. Artists from around the region are displaying their artwork in Southern Arts Society's latest show entitled "A Fresh Look". Ninety-three pieces of art in a variety of media were en- tered to be judged for cash prizes. Artists were asked to show their most recent work taking a fresh look at the world around them – a very appropriate theme for these trying times. Though life may be unsettling, much of the work still focuses on the bright colors of summer, heartwarming themes, and the sanctuary found in the outdoors. Judging the show is Felicia van Bork. Born in Toronto, Canada, Felicia van Bork completed her undergraduate studies at the Ontario College of Art and Design University and earned her MFA at the Mas- sachusetts College of Art and Design at the Fine Arts Work Center, Provincetown, MA. The artist's paintings and collages are widely col- lected in the United States and Canada and Felicia has been the recipient of numer- ous residency fellowships, including from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and McColl Center for Art + Innovation, where she man- ages the printmaking stu- dio. In the summer of 2017, she was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome. Van Bork's collage, How to Mine the Past, is in the permanent collection of the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC. Awards will be pre- sented virtually via Face- book this Friday July 10th at 4 pm. Winners will be posted on Southern Arts Society's website and sent via email. The exhibit is open to view now thru Au- gust 14. Artwork in the ex- hibit is available for sale. Visiting an art gallery is a very relaxing way to spend time. New Hours for "A FRESH LOOK" exhibit are: Tues – Wed – Thurs - Sat, 10 am to 2 pm, and by Appointment. Visitors to Southern Arts Society are asked to please wear a mask, and practice social distancing when viewing the artwork.
