JOHNNIE "POLLY" PAULINE EAKER DOWNS Johnnie "Polly" Pauline Eaker Downs, 82, of Millstone Farm Road, Casar, went to her Heavenly home on Sunday, June 28, 2020 at her home. Born in Cleveland County, NC on October 6, 1937, she was a daughter of the late William George Eaker and Vernie Hoyle Eaker. She was employed at the same job for forty-eight years and was also the co-owner of Millstone Farms. Polly was a mem- ber of Corinth Baptist Church where she had served as a Sunday school teacher for eleven years. She also had perfect Sunday school atten- dance for thirteen years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five brothers and sis- ters, Alberta Wortman, Billie Catherine Newton, Hugh Lee Eaker, Louie Eaker and Maxine McCormick. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 65 years, Bobby Harold Downs; daughter, Renee Downs Smith and husband, Charlie of Casar and the light of her life, her granddaugh- ter, Joy Smith. RACHEL MAE WEHUNT SELLERS Rachel Mae Wehunt Sellers, 83, left this world for her heavenly reward on Saturday morning, June 27, 2020 at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain. RODERICK "ROD" BRYON CLOUSE Roderick "Rod" Bryon Clouse, age 72, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at his home. Born in Goshen, Indiana on October 6, 1947, he was the son of Mary Alice Metzler of Indiana and the late Lamar Edgar Clouse. Rod attended Flint Hill Baptist Church. He was the owner of the Round Up Store and Affinity Salon. Rod was on the board of Trustees of Gardner Webb University, a board member of Cleveland Community College, a board member of the Cleveland County Arts Council, and a guardian ad litem. In addition to his mother, Rod is survived by his lov- ing wife of 25 years, Freida Ledbetter Clouse; a daugh- ter, Symy Clouse of Oregon; two sons, Corey Clouse and wife Kathy of Illinois, and Bret Clouse and wife Katia of Florida; two step sons, Jeremy Hamrick and wife Felicia of Shelby and Jason Hamrick Shelby; five grandchildren, Kira, Caroline, Kyle, Bret Jr., and Jonah; step grandchildren, Hannah, Bryson, Paisley; and a sis- ter, Stephanie Esenwein of Indiana. Born in Cleveland County, on February 18, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Cecil Raleigh Tallent and Bonnie Edna Cook Tallent. After her mother passed she was raise by her grandmoth- er Augusta Cook. She was a retired CNA and a mem- ber of Calvary Cross Baptist Church. In addition to her parents LUCILLE RAMSEY Blacksburg- Lucille Ramsey, 80, of 320 Upper Deal Street, passed away on Sunday, June 28th, 2020, at her home. Born in Blacksburg, she was the wife of Arnold Ramsey and the daughter of the late Woodrow Allison and Nettie Maynor Allison. Mrs. Ramsey worked as a home- maker and was a member of Cherokee Falls Missionary Fellowship Church. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Ramsey is survived by a son, Christopher Dillan Ramsey, of Blacksburg; a daughter, Pam Spencer and husband, J.R., of Chesnee; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Arnold Maurice Ramsey and Marty Lane Ramsey; and two sisters, Elaine Mullinax and Shirley Bright. Graveside services were held Wednesday, July 1st, 2020 at 1:00 pm at Mountain View Cemetery with Rev. Willie Lanier and Rev. Gregg Martin officiating. J.R. Spencer, Dillan Ramsey, Matt West, and Miguel Cleto will serve as pallbearers. RUBY SMITH LEDFORD Ruby Smith Ledford, 96, of Lawndale went home to be with the Lord on June 28, 2020. Born in Gastonia on January 27, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Ira Lee Smith, Sr. and Maude Barker Smith. Mrs. Ledford graduated from Gastonia High School and attended nursing school at Shelby Hospital with the Nurse Cadet Corp in 1945. She was a member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl E. Ledford of 50 years; three brothers, Ira Lee Smith, Jr., Carl Smith and Bob Smith and her sister, Willie Mae Posey. Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Ledford Cook and husband, John and Earlene Ledford Davis and husband, Doug all of Lawndale; three grand- children, Crystal Lovelace Costanzo and husband, Joe, Johnny Cook and wife, Jamie and Bobby Cook and wife, Kelley all of Charlotte and five great-grandchil- dren, David, Abbie, Becca, Jack and Conner Cook all of Charlotte; sister-in-law, Geneva Smith of Clover, SC. A private graveside service was at Rose Hill Memorial Park, Fallston with Rev. David Costner officiating. Kattie is survived by her husband of 34 years, Roy C. She was born September 11, 1937 in Catawba County to the late James Clutes and Mayzelle Lorene Smith Pruitt. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Dan Shull; and siblings, Lilly Sue Taylor, J.C. Pruitt, Bobby Ray Pruitt, and Vera Lowery. Survivors include her daughter, Loretta S. Shull; grandchildren, Richard Shull and wife, Wanda and Buck Shull; great grandchil- dren, Dillion Shull (Jenna), Brandon Shull (Courtney), and Colt Shull; siblings, Peggy Roberson, Mary Lou Dellinger, and Levon Hoyle; and numerous nieces and nephews. DANNY WAYNE HELMS Danny Wayne Helms, 58, of Lawndale, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Born in Burke County, on November 10, 1961, he was a son of the late Robert Helms and Betty Bright Moses. He was a co-owner and opera- tor of Tire Specialists of Morganton for a number of years and was the owner of Helms Restoration of Lawndale. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his two brothers, Phillip Bright and Paul Bright. He is survived by Montrose Cooke Helms of the home, sister, Marie Hutchins (TA) of Connelly Springs; and two nieces, Amber Bright of Vale and Joy Greene (Bryan) of Lincolnton.
