Andy Heuring photo State Road 56 to close between Otwell and Pike Central Highway 56, between Pike Central and Otwell, will be closed most of June. The Indiana Department of Trans- portation announces they will be clos- ing Highway 56 to replace the bridge decks on two small bridges beginning on or around Monday, June 1. The two projects will take place one after the other and will not be closed at the same time. The first site is on S.R. 56, near the Winslow-Cato Road (CR 475 East). The second site is about a tenth of a mile east of the first site. Dur- ing these two projects, contractors will replace the driving surface on the two bridges at these locations. INDOT said the road will be closed around the clock during these two projects. Local traffic will have ac- cess up to the point of closure, howev- er through traffic will need to use the official detour following S.R. 56, S.R. 57 and S.R. 356. Materials will be de- livered beginning May 27 and traffic may experience some short temporary disruptions up until the project begins. When the first bridge is being done, there is no county road detour avail- able. Highway 356 is the only alterna- tive. However, on the second bridge, CR 500 E. to CR 175 N. to CR 650 E. is an alternative. Work is expected to be complete by the end of June, depending upon weath- er conditions. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews. Big wheel fun Bowen Potts and Allie Schover were having fun in the parking lot of Autumn Apartments in Petersburg as family members cooked out and visited nearby on Memorial Day.
