Stam Education often ignores God Religious Viewpoint By Clyde Dupin See MINUTES on 3 See R AMBLINGS on 3 Continued on page 2 The Lord Jesus said to a religious lead- er of His day: "Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God" ( John 3:3). All true Christians have been born again by the Spirit of God (Tit. 3:5). They are therefore the children of God (Rom. 8:16). Children are a joy in any normal house- hold, but it is a tragedy when a child re- mains a child, physically, mentally or both. It is a tragedy too, that so many Christians, truly born again, remain spiritual babes — they do not grow. They know that Christ died for their sins but have made no progress in grace or in the knowledge of the Word. To such Paul wrote: "And I, brethren, could not speak un- to you as unto spiritual [men], but as un- to carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat; for hitherto ye were not able to bear [digest] it, neither yet now are ye able" (I Cor. 3:1,2). Thus those who, spiritually undevel- oped, were able to digest only the milk, or the simple things, of the Scriptures, were called "carnal" and "babes," in con- trast to those "spiritual" believers who Baptist Baptist A few weeks ago many of our finest and brightest students graduated from our colleges and universities. In a time of chaos without the joy of a real public commencement, they are seeking a ca- reer that will be fulfilling and financial- ly rewarding. Many of them lost some- thing of great value during their college days. They found that teaching was of- ten at odds with their faith and the val- ues they had been taught. They discov- ered that America is not great, secular- ism is good and Christianity is outdated and politically incorrect. Those in sec- ular and state institutions found profes- sors hostile in their references to God. Drugs, sex, alcohol was part of daily ac- tivities. Our young people deserve to know the truth. They must be taught in the home and reinforced by a Bible teaching church. Christian colleges and universities sometimes cost more but it may be a parent's best invest- ment. There are some things in life worth Ramblings of my mind by Lowell Thom- as Greetings, it's time to opine a few ram- bling thoughts. To start with I'll say a few words about another friend I used to work with. Tommy Daves was a good friend and usually had an eye for trouble shooting whatever was ailing with whatever equip- ment we were asked to work on. It seemed if something was going to happen it would happen to Tom though and things always jumped up to bite him. I hope and pray that he and his family stay safe and well. I am writing about my friends because I miss working with them although I don't miss working that much, but I do miss my friends. Our week started out again with a trip to Evansville for an early morning doc- tor visit for my wife. It seems as though between the two of us we should own a wing in one of the Deaconess hospi- See VIEWPOINT on 3 Baptist Continued in next column Assembly of God WASHINGTON ASSEMBLY OF GOD 320 S. Why God is Wrestling with You—Why would God let someone wrestle with Him? Because wrestling requires close contact. Jacob was a self-made man with an inde- pendent attitude that said, "I don't need anybody but my- self." How long will God wres- tle with you? Only for a limit- ed time. In Jacob's case, "till daybreak." God knew that if Jacob didn't submit to Him that night, the rest of his life wouldn't go right. There's a lesson here for all of us. Don't procrastinate; you may be running out of time. Before you forfeit your integ- rity or your family and your future, stop and realize that God knows things you don't know. Thought for the week: "But he said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my pow- er is made perfect in weak- ness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me'" (II Corinthians 12:9). Be in prayer for the lost, the sick, our church, our country and leaders, and always each other. God's blessings on you this week. Try to be kind and show God's love, because everyone is fighting some kind of battle. If you don't have a church home, we invite you to any of our services. Gary Watson, Pastor Nyles Head, Assoc. When He wrestles with you, it's to make you realize that you're wasting your life, or neglect- ing your family, or to show you that you're not the center of the universe. Or it's to en- courage you to keep this job without quitting, or stay in- volved in this church, or in- vest in this marriage instead of bailing out. He doesn't sugarcoat things. He gives it to you straight. He won't let you get away with some of the stuff you've pulled in the past.
