JERRY R AY BLOUNT Jerry Ray Blount, 82, of Velpen, passed away at 3:33 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at Cathedral Health Care in Jasper. He was born August 27, 1937, in Stendal, to James and Lorene (Preston) Blount. He served in the United States Army. He was a mem- ber of the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was a re- tired member of Laborer's Local #561 Union. He en- joyed horseback riding and trading, coon hunting and wagon train rides. He is survived by three daughters, Sherry (Gabe) Kupper, of Winslow, Sandra (Dan) Bakker, of Ruthton, Minn., and Sheila (Brad) Buechlein, of Jasper; one son, Steve (Roberta) Blount, of Velpen; one brother, Don- ald Blount, of Stendal; two sisters, Jean Eckert, of Bird- seye, and Carolyn Parker, of Boonville; eight grandchil- dren; and six great-grand- children . He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Stanley Blount; three sib- lings, Jimmy Blount, Bet- ty Caldemeyer and Joann Goodrum; and a grandson, Joshua Blount. BARBAR A JEAN READLE Barbara Jean (Neal) Rea- dle, 88, of Petersburg, en- tered her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Amber Manor Care Center. She was born June 23, 1931, the daughter of Ben- jamin and Evelyn Neal, in Shelbyville. She was a graduate of Carthage High School and attended nursing school in Indianapolis. On May 27, 1950, she married Robert J. Readle. They were blessed to have spent over 50 years journeying through life to- gether, prior to his passing in 2002. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter and aunt. She was a lifetime mem- ber of the Pike County Chap- ter of Delta Theta Tau. She was recently recognized for her 50 + years of member- ship with the Petersburg Garden Club. She was al- so an avid book reader, and a long-time member of the Methodist Church Book Club, as well as the Brown- ing Book Club. She was a member of the Petersburg United Methodist Church, and active with the United Methodist Women. She al- so sang in the church choir for many years. She deeply loved her church family and was always willing to help at any time, from organizing and coordinating dinners to helping collect donations for Mountain Missions. She will be fondly remem- bered for her love and pas- sion for cooking. She was an amazing cook, and will always be known for her fa- mous cinnamon rolls. She truly had a soft spot for ani- mals, especially her love of cats and owls. Her fascina- tion with owls grew to an ex- tensive collection through- out her house, which she proudly displayed. She was extremely skilled at completing crossword puzzles and would solve ma- ny each day. She enjoyed sit- ting on her front porch, visit- ing with family and friends, watching Wheel of Fortune and Lifetime movies. She will forever be remembered as a loving, caring friend who was always wearing a smile. She is survived by a sis- ter, Lu Long, of Rushville; a brother, Jim ( Judy) Neal, of Carthage; her five chil- dren, Joe ( Jenny) Readle of New Port Richey, Fla., Al- ice ( Jerry) Kelley, of Han- son, Ky., Jean ( Jim) Foster, of Noblesville, Larry (Sally) Readle, of Channahon, Ill., and Ben (Martha) Readle, of Petersburg; along with ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Arling- ton, Ind., where she will be laid to rest with her family. GLORIA JOY BUECHELE Gloria Joy (Davis) Buec- hele, 89, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, in Springfield, Ill. Born in Muren, she at- tended Winslow High School, where she met her husband-to-be, Neal Buec- hele. They lived in Indiana, and later moved to Decatur, Ill., before retiring to Sara- sota, Fla. and Mt. Home, Ark. In 2012, she moved to Springfield, Ill. An avid quilter, she made quilts for all nine of her chil- dren and her 22 grandchil- dren. She greatly enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She and her late husband played guitars and sang for their family and friends, and per- formed at numerous schools and nursing/senior homes. Her greatest joys in life were her family and her faith in God. She is survived by her children, Toni ( John) Gries- bach, Dane (Peg) Buechele, Tere Buechele, Mike ( Ja- nine) Buechele, Chris Buec- hele, Kelly ( Vicki) Buech- ele, Traci (Gary) Pezall and Tina (Kent) Yarborough; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Neal; and her son, Nick. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. JAY D. BEMENT Jay D. Bement, 87, long- time Petersburg resident, passed away in Southern California May 13, 2020, about two weeks after emer- gency gall bladder surgery. He was born June 9, 1932, in Pike County, to Luther and Eunice Bement. He was the last surviving of their 13 children and has been remembered by many as a warm and encouraging friend. He lived in Petersburg, Oolitic and Otwell as a child, and worked in an Indianapo- lis movie theater as a young man (and he loved movies, especially Westerns, plus anything with Tom Selleck, Sam Elliott or Mark Har- mon). He served in the Unit- ed States Army from June 1952-May 1954, stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict, often driving half- tracks on maneuvers under almost total darkness. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He worked at Klipsch Au- to Co. as an auto parts sales- man before and after Ar- my service, and would of- ten drive a tractor for local farmers after work. He married Sheila Sand- ers, of Petersburg, in June of 1954, and they lived in Petersburg until 1966, and again between 1988 -2012. They moved to Alta Lo- ma, Calif., in 1966, with their son, Mike, after Jay was re- cruited to work with Interna- tional Harvester Company's largest construction equip- ment branch (later Dress- er) in City of Industry. He served as parts salesman and, later, a manager in City of Industry and in Simi Val- ley, Calif., where he was very involved in setting up their first automated inventory system in the 1970s. Jay and Sheila returned to Petersburg in 1988, when an early retirement oppor- tunity came from the com- pany purchasing Dress- er. He was active for many years at Petersburg's First Christian Church, where he served in church leader- ship and taught adult Sunday School. He joined a mowing crew at Pride's Creek Park and volunteered with Shei- la at the Somebody's Place food bank. In 2012, Jay and Sheila re- turned to Alta Loma, Calif., to live with son, Mike, daugh- ter-in-law, Anna, and family in a house on their property, where they would often en- joy cards, dominoes and out- ings with Anna's retired par- ents. Their four grandsons were blessed with the good company of all four grand- parents for many years. In retirement, Jay enjoyed fixing things (he was spot- ted working under a riding lawnmower just a few weeks ago), gardening, working jigsaw puzzles, watching Angels baseball and play- ing games with family. He was also great company for the youngest cousins in the family, holding the babies and sharing toy construc- tion equipment when they JIMMY C. NAYLOR Jimmy C. Naylor, 86, of Columbus, Ind., passed away Monday, May 18, 2020, at his home. He was born July 9, 1933, in Washington. He was a graduate of Petersburg High School and served his country in the U. S. Army. Upon re- turning from the service, he enrolled and graduat- ed from Lane Technical School in Evansville. He retired from Cummins En- gine Company as a design engineer and had previ- ously worked for The John Deere Company in Water- loo, Iowa. He was an av- id reader and enjoyed re- storing antique tractors. He had been a member of Toastmasters Interna- tional and enjoyed pub- lic speaking. He also was a pilot and enjoyed flying for many years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marlene ( Willis) Naylor, whom he married June 23, 1958; son, Lee Naylor, of Co- lumbus; daughter, LuAnn (Earl) Samaroo, of Austin, Texas; and three grand- children, Cameron Naylor, Alexia Samaroo and Jona- than Samaroo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Flura (Steen) Naylor; an infant daughter, Les- lie Naylor; a brother, Bud Naylor; and a sister, Janet Steiner. R ANDAL J. COX Randal J Cox, 97, of Brownsburg, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020. He was born May 12, 1923, in Petersburg, to his parents, William A. and An- na K. (Stone) Cox. He mar- ried Violet ( Julian) Cox on May 14, 1950. He was a resident of Pe- tersburg for 33 years and Camby for 60 years. He has lived in Brownsburg since 2016. He attended Purdue Uni- versity and later went on to join the Navy during World War II. He was a Lay Out Inspector for Chrysler for 23 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of Camby Community Church. He was also a member of the Mooresville VFW Post #111. He enjoyed gardening, work- ing in the yard and around the house. He is survived by his lov- ing wife of 70 years, Violet ( Julian) Cox, of Browns- burg; his two daughters, Sheila F. (Don) Gagen, of Fort Wayne, and Elaine G. (Bill) Potter, of Browns- burg; five grandchildren, Sarah Taylor, Timothy Ga- gen, Serena Johnson, David Potter and Isaac Potter; and one sister, Wilma Hardin. He is preceded in death by both of his parents; two brothers, Raymond Cox and Orris Cox; and five sis- ters, Velma Doades, Lena Catt, Geneva Reed, Dorothy Woodall and Wanda Allison. A celebration of life will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at Jones Fam- ily Mortuary in Mooresville, with Pastor Charles Paxton officiating. PAUL EUGENE THEIRING Paul Eugene Theiring, 87, of Madison, Ind., died on Wednesday, April 29, 2020, at 9:15 a.m. at the Meadow View Health and Rehab in Salem, Ind. He entered his life on Au- gust 17, 1932, in Spurgeon, the loving son of the late Or- ville and Agnes Julkenbeck Theiring. Raised in Spurgeon, Paul graduated from Spurgeon High School and attend- ed Spurgeon United Meth- odist Church. He then re- ceived his bachelor's de- gree from Oakland College and his masters from Indi- ana State University. He was inducted into the Unit- ed States Army on Febru- ary 27, 1951, in Indianapolis. He served during the Kore- an War and rose to the rate of Sergeant, serving in the Headquarters Battery 115th FA Battalion. He was honor- ably discharged on Febru- ary 26, 1954, from Camp At- terbury, Ind., receiving the Korean Service Medal with three bronze battle stars, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National De- fense Service Medal. He was united in marriage on December 30, 1957, in Oakland City, to Shelby Jean Willis. This happy union of 62 years was blessed with sons, David and Brian, and daughters, Myra and Jenni- fer. He taught in the high schools at Boonville, Otwell and Vevay from 1957-1964. He always worked hard and was employed in construc- tion and carpentry during the summers, and helped build the locks and dams. The family settled in Mad- ison in 1968 and he was em- ployed with the Jefferson Proving Ground from Au- gust 7, 1964, to April 3, 1993. For a time, he held member- ship in the Masonic Lodge and the HADI Shrine. He held membership in the Ma- jor Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion, the Madison VFW Post 1969 and the Korean War Veter- ans Association. He cher- ished his participation in the Honor Flight of 2016. He enjoyed tending to his farm, playing golf, wood- working, especially with barn wood, playing chess, hunting, fishing, playing Sol- itaire, and listening to blue- grass and classical music. Proud of his pilot's license, he also treasured flying his plane. He will be missed by his loving wife of 62 years, Shel- by Jean Willis Theiring, of Madison, Ind.; his sons, Da- vid Theiring, and his wife, Marla, and Brian Theiring and his wife, Laura, both of Madison, Ind.; his daugh- ters, Myra Theiring, and Jennifer Theiring Nay and her husband, Morey, both of Madison, Ind.; his grand- children, David Jr., Tambre, Larry, Alexandria "Lexie" and Emily; his great-grand- children, Zachary, Kirsten, Andrew, Ashton and Aidan; his step-grandchildren, Jacci (Bill), Michelle, Aar- on, Thomas (Becky), Kay- la and Justin (Sara); his step-great-grandchildren, Bethany, Jacob, Deuce, Al- ana, Ruby (Blaine), Dami- an, Drake, Kaitlynn, Abby, McKayla, Hunter and An- nie; his step-great-great- grandchildren, Auggie and Karliah; his brothers, Ken- neth Theiring and his wife, Ann, of Evansville, and Rob- ert Theiring and his wife, Bobbye, of Little Rock, Ark.; his half brothers, James Thorne and his wife, Bren- da, of Oakland City, Tom Thorne and his wife, Mari- lyn, of Winslow, and Ronnie Thorne and his wife, Susie, of Winslow; his brother-in- law, Carl Willis and his wife, Judy, of Winslow; his sisters- in-law, Alice Smith, of Mil- ton, Ind., and Nora Schlach- ter, of Jasper; several nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father, Orville Thei- ring; his mother, Agnes Ju- lkenbeck Theiring Thorne; his stepdad, Jay Thorne; his sister, Ruth Pollard; his half sister, Marjorie Riester; and his brother, Calvin Theiring. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2020, at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madi- son, Ind., with Pastor Len- ny Thorpe officiating. Full military honors were con- ducted at 1:30 p.m. by Major Samuel Woodfill Post No. 9 of the American Legion. In- terment followed in the In- diana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday and from noon until service time at the funeral home.
