HERBERT WALTER SMOUTHER Mr. Herbert Walter Smouther, age 90, of Moriah, passed into God's care on July 22, 2019. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Smouther and brother, Roger Smouther both of Canton, PN; his first wife, Winnifred (Seeley) Smouther of Elmira; and a son, Stephen Herbert Smouther of Columbus, OH. Mr. Smouther is survived by his second wife, Marilyn (Fortenberry) Smouther of Moriah; a son, Gordon W. Smouther and daughter- in-law, Linda L. Smouther of Trenton, NJ; two step- sons, Douglas and Michael Fortenberry of Moriah; and three step-daughters, Deborah Powell of Belwood, Dawn Caldwell of Columbia, SC and Michelle Garrison of Hickory; and many grand- sons and granddaughters. She was born to the late James Thomas Hord and Emma Jane Barber Hord; and was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Ivey; her son, Thomas Alton Ivey (Sophia Ivey); her daugh- ter, Judith Ivey Robbs; a granddaughter; and sisters, Eunice Allen, Ethel Falls and Frances Falls. Mrs. Ivey is survived by five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and son-in-law, Eddie Robbs (Nancy). Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. He was born to the late Walter Bryan and Docia Harriet Mauney Putnam. Mr. Putnam served our country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean war. He was pre- ceded in death by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Adeline Seagle Putnam; a son, John MAXINE SMITH MCSWAIN Mrs. Maxine Smith McSwain, age 83, of Cherryville, NC, passed away on July 21, 2019. She was a daughter to the late William Lloyd and Ivy Roxanna Harkey Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stowe Bobby McSwain. Mrs. McSwain is survived by her sons, Randy McSwain (Mary Anne), Ronnie McSwain (Rhonda), and Roger McSwain (Jennifer); Sisters, Linda Hawkins, and Janice Ledford (Doug); and five grandchildren and six- teen great-grandchildren. Gentry, age 89, completed his earthly life on July 18, 2019. He was born on June 30, 1930 in Cleveland County, NC to the late Eckles Miller, Sr. and Estelle Gentry Miller. Mr. Gentry served our country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. She was born to the late Birdie and Odessa Wilson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Gene, Luke, Burton and George Jones; sisters, Kathleen and Helen Jones and daughter, Tammy Vandyke. Mrs. Vandyke is sur- vived by her husband, Bill Vandyke; daughters, Kim Beaver and Sabrina Williams and husband, Justin, both of Shelby; sister, Mae Reece of Concord; brother, Blaine Jones of Rutherfordton; six grandchildren. He was the son of the late Furman Angel and Virginia Pruitt Angel. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Ricky Angel; one son, Robert Angel; and two brothers-in-law; Junior McCurry and Norman Charboneau. Mr. Angel is survived by his wife, Esther Franks Angel of Shelby; one daugh- ter, Leighia Angel Jones and husband, Rob of Shelby; two sisters, Wanda McCurry, Fay Haynes and husband, James; one sister-in-law, Alice Charboneau; and three grandchildren. He was a son of the late Arthur Lee Willis and Janie Mae Taylor Willis. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Roy Jack Willis, Robert Willis, Raeford Willis and Kenneth Willis and five sisters, Pauline Green, Sue Turner, Margaret Blackwell, Vangie Costner and Mildred Helms.
